New GMC vs. Ford Commercial

Any one seen it yet? It shows a new GMC Sierra and a 04 F150 running through some alleyways and through some gates and just around the city and it shows the F150 trying to catch up to the GMC. Then they talk about how the 04 F150 can't keep up with the new GMC in quality, style and performance, and other stuff like that.

Seems to be the new trend among the manufacturers to downgrade the other trucks.. Just like we have a Tundra commercial on the radio saying that none of the other "Big Three" can keep up to the Tundra and that it has the best acceleration and is just the better truck among all of them in almost every category. Tundra's are nice trucks, but I don't know it they are better than all the rest.

So what do you guys think about these new commercials?

If all it has to do with is the "racing" factor of the truck, why don't they pit their GMC against the stock Ford production truck called a lightning? However, that would prove fatal to GMC, so they picked a regular F-150. However, acceleration, as WE ALL know means nothing to pick-ups used what they are meant for. Why not put equal trailers on both trucks with say, 5,000#, and lets see who plays catch-up. From all the articles I've read on MSN, edmunds, etc on the new F-150, it is supposed to be the highest rated towing vehicle, which in reality is what a pick-up should be. If speed is what you want, while still maintaing the stance or look of a full-size, get a lightning.
As far as stlye, yeah that's arbritrary, that's why they can claim that, performance, most likly, very likly, they compared the 4.6 to GM's larger motor. (5.3 or whatever) If you go to www.gmbuypower.com and try to use the "compare" feature, you'll notice the site does not allow you to compare the 5.4 against the 5.3. It always defaults to the 4.6 or even the 4.2 against the largest Chevy motor, again, pretty shady. The claim against quality, blah blah blah, how can you really prove that? Therefore it's not really false advertising because it really is not feasible or possible to accuratly measure who built what better, and compared to what. I haven't seen the commercial yet, but sounds like a bunch of crap.

Here's an example : http://www.gmbuypower.com/compare.bp...&subModel=1500

Notice the 4.6 compared to the 5.3, so naturally, the rest of the Chevy's numbers look better. (Towing, hauling, etc.)

I added a 5.4, towing is better on theirs though of course they only let you select a 4x4 which, I would guess, might bring down the towing numbers?

I saw it... wasn't impressed.

Of course, ANY advertising that is out there will promote the buyer of the advertising's product. Ford has done the same thing with the Dodge commercial etc...

It's just advertising...

Coke and Pepsi are doing it now too... and have for YEARS.

I did one of them Pepsi taste test. It is easy to tell which one is Coke and which one is Pepsi. I drank the Coke one and said "mmmmmmmm that's good" drank the Pepsi one and said "That taste like CRAP, what the hell is that?" Lady says "Pepsi" I say, "So are you going to use me in a taste test commerical?"

one funny thing about that commercial is that they only say the cuvie has more horsepower they never mention torque which as you know is all that counts in the pickup world.

what they are comparing is their base engine-5.3-to fords base engine-4.6- it is very common marketing hubris.

anyway drive what you like and like what you drive!

I believe the premise behind that GMC commercial is that it has more standard V8 horsepower than the new Ford. Big deal.

My guess also is that General Motors indeed does realize how much of a more superior vehicle Ford Mortor Company has now produced. So, they wanted to get the jump on Ford instead of the other way around.

My 03 GMC is a far nicer truck than either of the 2000 or 1998 Ford trucks I had owned recently. Yes I went with the SLT luxury package verses the XLT Fords but it is not just the trim level that I refer to. My GMC is a 2500 HD with 4x4 and it rides, handles and accelerates better than the 150 Fords I had. The seats are more comfortable and the range of options blew Ford out of the water.

The Fords are far superior in low end torque and I truly missed that last weekend while pulling stumps. This post is not meant to bash Ford because they make a darned good truck. But service and Dealer salesmanship is also very important and Ford treated me like day old dog crap last spring when I was shopping.

If you spend your hard earned money on a Ford you get your moneys worth and so far I have also been getting my moneys worth with my GMC HD as well. Plus with any of the Big Three all of the profits stay on our continent.

Sometimes I feel a tinge of regret that I did not wait till the 04 150's came out before I bought, but I was sick of the Dealer crap. It is my money and they need to realize that they need me a hell of a lot more than I need them.

Anyhow, GMC or Ford will get your job done and give you a vehicle worth writing about.

PS: Both running lights work and the new pistons don't slap.
