Exclamation Gas tank size

I thought that my 99 xlt 5.4 4x4 had a 25 gallon gas tank (canadian truck). I just filled the tank when the light came on and it topped off at just over 72 litres. This would mean that there are about 25 litres still in the tank when the gas light comes on..or that I have a 20 gallon tank...tried to get info from dealer but to no avail...anyone know for sure what the size is?...it got just over 500 k on the last tank and if it is 20 gallons that is great gas mileage...thanks in advance..

I have 30 gallon tank, but I have an extended caband long bed. Most trucks came w/ 25 gallon tanks.
If I top it off (and I mean top it off) I can put 29-30 gallons in when the light comes on. I can get another 5 gallons in the tank after the pump kicks off the first time.
The owners manual tells you what percent of the tank capacity remains when the light comes on. I don't recall what it is off of the top of my head.

72 liters = ~19 gallons, 3-4 gallons in reserve after the light comes on, plus 2-3 gallons from not topping it all the way off = 25 gallon tank, plus 1-2 gallons in the filler neck and gas lines.

There is a way to check - fill up a couple 2 gallon gas cans and start driving until you run out of gas. Put a can in and head for the gas station. If you don't make it before you run out of gas, put the other can in. You'll know within a maximum of 2 gallons your tank size. For that matter, you could let it idle at a gas station until you run out of gas - then start filling it up.

36fan has got it. Unless you have an 8' bed, you've got a 25 gallon tank.

If I fill up right when the light comes on, I get about 19-20 gallons in to the first click off. I can still shove in another 2 gallons in after that, which fills up the filler neck, etc... I don't do that unless I'm going to drive at least 20 miles after I fill up to drain some of that right away to alleviate pressures in the gas delivery system. So generally, I have around 3 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on.

GAS tank Size

Thanks for the info...I figured that it was probably 25 gallons...but always good to know..I also thought that 55 canadian to fill it was a little low...too bad...but you don't buy a full size truck for the gas mileage...

It was my understanding when I bought my 97 flareside that it had a 25 gallon tank, and all other F-150's had 30 gallon tanks.

I usually do 80 - 85 litre fills, knowing that I still have a reserve. And that fill is from the "E"

longbeds = 30 gallons
shortbeds = 25 gallons (95 liters)

My record fill last summer was 95.31 liters, lol, don't ask me how that happened, but it's true.

damn Habibi... that is truly "running on fumes"

you must have been rolling downhill to the service station.

The most I have ever emptied a vehicle was a few years back in a 91 2 door Blazer. Fuel pump was towards the rear of the tank so when I accelerated it stalled. Wait until its level and restart and then try not to accelerate so hard.

Some of us really push it at times.

I know in 99 when I bought my Expi there was an option to get a 30 Gal tank with the big tow package. I don't believe they do that any more.

Yes sir J, I coasted off the 401 on my last fume.
I rejoiced when I made it to the Esso without running out, LOL

Hey, by any chance, do you have a garage that my truck will fit in?
Want to rent it for a week or so? I don't trust Park n Fly.

park n' fly is okay if you use the self-park lot. you park it and lock it and keep your keys. Those ape-like attendants never touch it.

I would offer up a garage if I had one but c'mon, this is toronto, a driveway is a luxury.

Thanks anyway, looks like I will catch a connecter flight from Kingston.
I just don't trust leaving my truck in an open air parking lot for 7 to 10 days.

Habibi, if you change your flight to leave from Charlotte, NC you can use my garage for a week without paying me a dime.

I appreciate the offer my friend, very kind of you.
I would love to check out your neck of the woods one of these years, it will happen eventually!
