The first gen of those sucked. Get the newer ones, more reliable, but, I would go with the ones that store on Memory sticks!

Like lifeguardjoe said the first gen did suck. Sony tends to be somewhat of a leader in video equipment, however, their digital camera always seem to leave somewhat more to be desired. Fuji and Olympus produce very nice images...... but I guess you didn't ask about them.

I have purchased 4 Sony cameras over the past three years... not because they keep going bad but because business is growing and I'm the guy that gets to go buy stuff like that. I love Sony. Nearly everything I own dons a Sony emblem.

I don't have any experience with the CD cameras but I have a buddy in Owensboro that had one. He actually had a second generation Sony CD Mavica and despised it. He claimed that the record times were slow, the discs weren't readily available and, when you could find them, they were more expensive. He also didn't like it because it was fairly bulky and 'clumsy' feeling.

He sold it on ebay for a loss of about $150 after only having it for about a month and purchased another Sony with a MemStick. Like all of the cameras that I maintain for work and the one I have at home, all feature the memory stick and I've NEVER had a single problem with them...

I hope that helps a little runnert. It's not a first hand opinion but, knowing that the buddy in question works for IBM and I'm his children's godfather, I trust his opinion. HAHA!

Thanks for the input. So what is a good digital camera? Would you trust any listed in Ebay - I didn't want to pay full price from a retail store.

I have a Sony and its a very nice camera that take's excelent pictures. Its a DSC-S85 that isn't made this year but the newer version is out. They are increasingly smaller and getting higher resolution. IF I were you I'de get one thats over 4megapixle's in size. Mine is a 4.1 and the picture's print out perfect no matter wut size they are. In my gallery is some exampls. Should be noted some of the pics are with a .7mega pixle camera, so you can compare them.

here is one I took this summer while on a little drive

As I said in my earlier post, I'm SOLD on Sony. Every picture that you can find in my gallery is w/ a Sony Mavica (which are slightly bulky).

Also, keep in mind that the pictures that you're viewing are being projected on a monitor that can't show you the true quality. The camera is actually doing a better job than you can technically see. So, with that in mind, don't base a lot of your decision on individual look on the screen.

Yes, the Fuji FinePix 3800 is a GREAT recommendation. It has recieved many awards for the value and performence. It is also one of the newest cameras to utilize the new XD picture cards. They use a lot less power and have faster access speeds, this allows for longer battery performance.
Anything more than 3 megapixels and higher produces 8x11's that look photo perfect. Higher megapixels allow the photographer to print out larger images at better resolutions. If you take a 5x7 print out from say a sony 3.0 megapixel camera and from a sony 5.0 megapixel camera, they would be identical in quality, all the way up to an 8x11; However, as stated before, if you wanted and even larger photo than a 8x11, the 3.0 megapixel would start to look grainy, whereas the 5.0, would still look great. Sample pictures on a computer screen are not a good indication of how the photo will print. Monitors can only achieve a certain resolution. The printer make ALL the difference in the world. If you want good prints, buy a quality inkjet printer like a Cannon or HP.
