Last Days
Last Days
That's right, I am turning 'her' in next week, but I will quit driving her this week. I had a 5 year 90k mile lease, and the bank is sending some one out to pick her up. (Last chance if anyone wants her for the balance)
I just gotta say that this bytch never let me down. 365 days a year for 5 years, through every kind of weather, and I mean EVERY kind of weather, she just kept going, and going. When other peoples Trucks broke down, she towed them - one even through a tornado. She also went through 2 feet of snow to uphold my perfect - never miss a day - record. She has helped me "bring home the bacon" plus a roof, a fence, many 2x4's and 8ft sheets of plywood, and whatever else I could stuff in the bed. Plus she has taken me exploring in the mountains of VA twice, and everything inbetween, as well as beautiful Canada a couple of times, and the UP of MI too.
Of course I treated her well. With some cool toys, 3 tranny fluid changes, 2 bosch plus 4 plug changes, many mobil1 oil changes, lots of wiper blades, head lights, and various other things.
Why am I letting her go?
She is one of the last things with my Ex's name on it, besides the "not closed, but not active" joint bank account we had when I bought/leased her. The stupid bank made him cosign for her when we were married, and they wouldn't take his name off her when we devorced, even though the payments came out of my personal "before we were married" account. They also wouldn't close our joint account.
I am moving "up north" next year and will need a 4X4. That's right, I am ditching what's left of my life here in the big city that wasn't so big when I moved here 18 years ago. Why people move to rural ares, then "citify" it all up is beyond me.
My family has long since left Mi, and - not that we were ever close - I have no ties here anymore. I thought about moving down south, but I hate the heat / humidity combination. Fl, where my Mom lives, with it's dryer heat just isn't for me with all it's alziemers patients. Texas, where my Dad lives, is too humid. VA, where some distant family live, is very nice, but it is too hot and humid also and I don't want to be near a military base. I am used to the snow, and cold, with several months of summer weather. Seeing my sis whom I have never visited in MN, will be a easier drive from the UP, (Michigan's upper peninsula) maybe we can visit each other. Who cares, I will be glad to leave the city behind.
I will be glad to look up into the sky at night and see the stars again without the hinderance of city lights. and butterflies. I can't remember the last time (before this summer) when I saw butterflies. I did a lot of landscaping this summer while waiting to get my (burned) house fixed, and I notice some making a come back. I think all the lawn chemicals city people use had been killing them off. Maybe my new pond, or the shrubs helped, but I intend to see a lot more of them where I am going.
Anyway, if my new FX4 is as good as my 98, I know I will be alright no matter what the weather.
I will drive my friends van until I get the new Truck.

Good for you! Never be afraid to pack up everything and physically move on.
Its unfortunate why you even came to this decision.... but it happened so here you are.
It also sounds like you came out ahead, at least emotionally.
So congrats on the new truck and make sure you have 'net access up north.

I hope you stay safe and definately have a saft trip. I hope you enjoy your FX4. My dad has a new 03, and I have his old 98 and he still swears that it was the best truck he ever owned. Well I think he's just happy that it's still in the family!
You can't have different results until you do things different. Leave the ghosts of the past, pack up a new truck, and hit the road. As a child, the world seemed a colorful and exciting place because of all the possibilites. It sounds like you are overdue for a little change of scenery.
The UP Rocks, and then some too!!
So here's to 'ya

Can't believe it's time for u to leave that truck. I've seen many pics of it over the past few years. When I think of ATST, that pretty blue truck comes to mind (oh yea, and the leather pants
)
I'm sure you're next truck will be just as sweet. Good luck on the move...

ATST, you were the first one I ever chatted with on this site. Way back about 4.5 years ago. It seems to me that you were married then. Sorry to hear about all of the turmoil. Divorces and stuff suck but make you better in the end.
You can ATST-ize the new truck and home. Good luck and have another good five years from the new truck.

It can be tough to say good-bye to and old friend. I'd guess that you will be left with some fond memories. Many of us have seen you pics and think of that nice blue truck (and leather pants!
) when we read your posts. It'll be good to move on though. Living in a new area should allow you some peace and tranquility. An FX4 is a good choice. I think it will fit you better than the '98. The FX4 is fiesty, fit and attractive. You two will accent each other well
.
The best of luck to you. You are one of the very few from the boards that I have met. I think your pretty cool. I think you deserve good things.

Here she is, looking good while she works!

Where in the UP are you moving to? I was stationed up there at KI Sawyer AFB for a few years. Absolutely gorgeous country especially if you like the outdoors, summers are perfect no humidity or bugs, the winters can be tough, but in my opinion that just makes the summers nicer.
Good Luck with your new life change

Thanks for all the replies and encouragement.
We all reach turning points, and I am nearing mine. Good thing my job isn't tying me down like a lot of other people. I have moved 3 times, to cosy, rural areas, and each time, it gets built up around me. This time I plan to move so far out, it won't catch up in my lifetime. I know how to live with - not on - the land.

It sure is. and while I like traveling in the south, I am drawn to the north.

Yep, the Truck lasted longer than the hubby.
He wanted me to quit one of my jobs to spend more time with him, so I did. (that's why I needed a cosigner for the truck. I didn't need one for my previous truck)
Then he wanted me to get a PC so he could start up his own business, which I did.
He never did start his business, so once I learned how to operate a PC, I did what we all do - started surfing the internet.
He had always wanted a new car and I told him he couldn't get one until he paid off his credit cards. Unbeknownst to me he applied to an auto loan, and he thought the reason he wasn't approved was because I had gotten credit in his name, (he never said what he thought I got the credit for) so he up and left, packing everything he owned in a couple hours.
The reality was, he owed 15k in unsecured loans when we got married, which I had paid down to 8k (at 21% intrest) in two years. Nobody gives credit to people who don't own anything and owe 8k (or 15k). Three months later, when he got a credit report back, and found out I didn't ruin his credit, he wanted to come back. I told him "you didn't trust me, well I don't trust you now, so forget it. Besides the fact that my kids were very confused and hurt, they come first, and I won't do that to them again."
He moved in with his mommy, and ran his CC's up again, and finally had to get a consolidation loan, and cut them up. He also got a new Jeep Liberty, so again he owes big money and dosn't own anything. << LOSER!
As for ATSTising the new one - Trust me, I have plans already!

Yes, some peace and tranquillity would be nice, and I do deserve it. I have always been the type to work hard, then sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I guess I am a bit fiesty now that you mention it.

The tippy top, and I don't mean the Su. I am thinking more along the lines of Munnising. (Pictured Rock area) I will, of course run a recon on the whole area before I decide.
You are right it is gorgeous, and the summers suit me well. Winters are OK if you are prepared. If I ever get up the latest pictures of my camping trips, you would see how prepared I always am. Hence the FX4.

Andthensometoo,
Nice post, enjoyed reading it.
I wish you the best of luck with everything, I'm sure all will be ok.
New beginnings are always refreshing
How does that old saying go? One door closes, and another opens? I'm excited for you.

I just had the bank come and pick up my 2000 F150 since the lease was up. But I already had a new one so I had nothing to worry about.
Also I am thinking about going somewhere else where I can get a good job and make some money. It is just too hard to find a decent job here, so I may go somewhere else where it may be easier. Don't know yet.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do ATST.

I have spent alot of time in the UP. My grandparents own 125 acres and a nice house in a town called Humboldt. It is 30 miles west of Marquette. They live where 41 and 95 meet. You cant pick a better place to live. The weather there is great fun as well. Munnising is a nice town, Ive actually been on picture rock tour etc. I think anywhere in that area is fine. IMO the area within about 30 miles of Marquette is the best place to live in the UP. And I've been from the SU to Iron Wood to the spot where 41 ends. Best of luck to you.
