Angry Gas Pains!!

Well... It looks like people are just rolling over and playing dead over this recent PHONEY gas crunch. Even the folks being interviewed on the news seem to be takeing it in stride. Gas in my territory (Good ol Gray Davis country) just went over $2.10 a gallon on average and we can expect it to rise more until after Labor day. What a coincidence. It's always just before the big labor Day holiday. I guess what really tics me off is the idiotic excuses the oil companeys are comeing up with to justify it. Hello!!!! The fuel costs were on the rise a good week before the East coast black out. This is just a classic case of corperate greed. Nothing out West is likely to be done about the current price gougeing because the state of California is so far down the S#@T hole, any extra tax revenue is welcome to our soon to be former governer. So I guess the question is...How does the little consumer that relies on his car every day fight this? People just can't stop driveing. Not even for one day. We have to get to work! Here's one suggestion that I heard about that just might put a dent in the oil company's profit. Boycott one large oil company a week. You don't have to stop buying gas. If everyone can organize and agree to stop buying gas from Mobile for one solid week, then the next week, stop buying from Shell, and so on, we can really hit them back. This won't put any company out of business but can you imagine what effect it would have on them if each company was effectively "Out of business" for a week? They would probably have to have a sale the next week to make up for the losses. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't work because the company that is being boycotted will more than likley sell off its new reserves to another major oil company. Well...Just a thought and the end of my rant.

I'm with F150Europe on this one.
I just had a month in the U.S. where you can barely get $25 in the tank of the hire car and then today back in England, filled my truck up at 76 pence per litre.
I can't be arsed to work it out but thats about $5 per gallon.
No sympathy at all.

Actually, I did post (somewhere, can't remember which post) outlining my travel plans in the U.S. last month and asked if anyone wanted a beer.
I went to Houston, Dallas, Ardmore Ok, then Florida and stayed in Titusville (Hi lifeguardjoe), Daytona and finally Kissimmee.
I would have loved to have met up with some of you for a pint or two.

Next time perhaps.

Looks like most of your trip was pretty far north of me. By the time I would have managed to get there the beer would be warm, and who wants that?

Jeez, I hope you didn't go to Titusville as the main attraction on your trip.

Let's see 1 gallon = approx 3.79 litres

3.79 x $0.79 = approx $3.00

still absurdly high. You need to stop paying the ridiculous taxes on petroleum over there and quit letting the Queen and Charles mooch off you.

Take a trip to Buckingham and tell the slackers to get a job!

Cool B. Pound --> $1.57

3.785412 x 0.76 x 1.57= $4.52/US Gallon

Its funny when people get outraged at gas prices going up and claim there is no reason for it.

Wake up and read some news - all the info you ever need is out there.

1. Crude Oil has been running at well over $30 a barrell for a decent amount of time now. Earlier lows came with oil prices at sub $20 a barrell.

2. Phoenix had its only pipline from the east shut down. Where does the rest of its gas come from? California. Supply and Demand at work - gas prices sky rocket in Arizona, more gas goes there that used to be consumed in California, and prices rise there too.

3. At least one of your refineries has been having trouble recently, and since the refining is running at capacity, any disruption means a price spike.

4. Refiners are reluctant to produce any more summer gas than necessary, as they are nearing the time when winter gasoline production should begin AND more oil should be going to distilliate production for heating oil to stock up before winter.

5. NYMEX spot futures in gasoline spiked 10 cents a gallon on Thursday, the largest rise since 1991 when Iraq invaded Kuwait. It was only 2 cents of its record price ever.

6. Both crude and gasoline reserves are well below normals, and have been for months. Result: Any supply interruption (ie seven refineries shut down in the Midwest and NE shut down due to power outages) results in immediate price spikes.

Like the electrical transmission lines, we are running so close to capacity in so many facets of the industry that one major incident will result in real price increases like you have never seen before.

...and next week...

...Mars will be as close as it has been in 65,000 years. I suppose that will mean another gas price increase.

Yeah, right. I hope there is a special room in hell....

Don't just take it from me:

Not bitter about the price hike to 1.83 today on regular are ya? FYI - the Flint Hills Refinery goes down for sheduled maintinance in a week or so - they only provide about 1/2 of the gas consumed around here. Think supplies are going to be a little tight?

OK you got me - I interpreted English Adam's pence to be an American penny, not a £/100
