I got a job!

Well, as some of you know, I just graduated college August 9th, and I just got a job today with Home Depot Corporate! I'll be working in their logistics department. I'm happy, every that works there loves it and alot stay for 30+ years until retirement. I'm excited! That also means I can get my truck now

I didn't think Home Depot was in business for 30 years.

Sorry, you're right. I meant to say that they want to stay for 30+ years until retirement. You're right, the company hasn't been around that long, good observation

"The Home Depot was founded in 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia " per the HD Corporate website...

i dont know what logistics means to you but we have been doing alot of work for logistics companys in the last 3 to 5 years, from what i see a logistics company does away with the purchasing department at a big company, example, you call the logistics company with a list of stuff you need from toilet paper, pens, business forms, coffee, gloves and tha logistics company get it all and then tacks on 10% to 20%, if you use alot of a product they stock it for you, before you choke on the 10 to 20% remember that the big logistics companys have may contacts and they get a better price from everyone including ups and fed-ex. i here this is the way of the future, doing away woth the purchasing department. i personally dont like it because they alway stress how big they are and are constantly ribbing you on price, but if you get with a big one then they can throw alot your way.

logistics is really just the study of and implimentation of moving things around... be it troops, trucks, chickens or whatever you gotta get moved or supplied...

Not meaning to burst your bubble about HD, but I can tell you this, HD is not the place to be if you're in management. It wouldn't be right to say who I work for, but I can tell you that have hired and or interviewed about 11 ex- and present store managers from Home Depot. They all say the same thing. Home Depot is not the same since Blank and Marcus left.

Nardelli has said that tenured managers must go as a cost cutting measure. What a way to reward someone for loyalty.

All I'm saying is that you need to keep one ear on what people are really saying when they aren't trying to pump you up and make things look all rosey. There is alot of disgruntled employees and ex-employees out there.

I hope I didn't bum you out, and I'm sure you will be fine in your position. It could definately be a long term career for you. And what he said about the 401K...DO IT YESTERDAY!! There are alot of paper millionaires at Home Depot! It's the best way to secure your future.

Good luck

Say "Hi" to Tony Stewart for me, and tell him to dump that Chevy and start driving a Ford! Better yet, bring him over to my place for a couple of beers, and I'll tell him. Good luck...I hear its a good place to work.

Congratulations decoy, I hope everything works out.

No matter how good a job is, you'll hate it sooner or later. The good thing is that there is a support group for people that hate their jobs, the membership includes everybody and meetings are held weeknights starting at 5 O'Clock in every bar.
