Odins Wrath,
Don't mistake my statement as showing support for the UN. For the most part all there are capable of IMO is providing humanitarian relief on a limited scale. The veto power within the Security Council will prevent it from being of much use in real matters.
My point on turning our backs on things is that if previous administrations had put their foot down in Iraq it would have already been dealt with. Though Liberia (and Zimbabwe) are different situations, we still have much more to gain then to potentially lose by assisting IMO. Once again, a previous administration walked away from Somalia. Is it no surprise that a GPS unit lost in Somalia was found in Afganistan?
It's a two way street. Both sides of the fighting in Liberia have requested US assitance. Giving it to them strengthens ties, which gives us leverage to have them work harder to combat terrorism problems within Africa.
Just as a note, the UN Security Council passed a resolution in May that cited weapons of mass destruction in Iraq again. The same countries that so opposed using force to get rid of them signed it without protest. I'd like to hear their comments on the planes being dug up.
There also seems to be mounting evidence that some of the planes are equipped with post Gulf War technology, and that this equipment wasn't made in Iraq. I think it's time we put and end to this crap, and quit acting like the UN SC members aren't supporting some of our enemies.

I've been in the UN building before, it's not that bad of a building. It can definately be used for a large company or a bunch of small companies to base their offices in.
