I will be transferring shortly to the Dallas area and was wondering how strict is the required vehicle inspection. My state doesn't do inspections. The only thing I'm concerned about is that I don't have a front license plate holder and my two front side windows are tinted at 30 percent. What problem(s) should I expect during my first inspection?

Glad to have ya! Yes, you do need front license plate. The tint might pass, but I would just put my windows down. I've never had them check mine. I've lived in Houston and now @ Canyon Lake (near San Antonio). I imagine Houston & Dallas have the same guide lines. Some cities have less stringent regs', depending on population & emissions. They check to make sure your "gas cap" seals and all emission devices are "in tact" & operational. Good luck & come on down
As far as I know, you may be alright without the front license plate as long as you have the plate in the front windshield/dashboard. My brother carries his front plate this way on his Escort, with no problems that I know of.
The tint may be alright, but as retired2001 suggested, you might want to roll down the windows when you go in. I believe that the max darkness that the tint can be is 35%.
Good luck and welcome to the neighborhood......the biggest in the country.

Your front LP has to be attached, but Ive never been pulled over for not having it. Before you can get the truck registered it has to be inspected, just tell the dude to inspect it and make sure he gives you a little green piece of paper with the VIN NUMBER EXACTLY RIGHT, otherwise they wont give you your plates. Its pretty easy really nothing to demanding.
I don't think the cop will pull you over for not having the front plate but I'm pretty sure the if you get pull over for some other reason you will get ticket for not having the front plate. Here is the Texas DPS web site for the info
