I don't get it
why can African Americans have Black Expos? I think that if there were a White Expo, then it would be deemed racist? I am not making this comment to put down African Americans, but I think it is an interesting point.
It looks like a double standard on the surface, but deep down, it's really not.

First, I never said nor would I ever condone someone (society) to judge others or to have them follow particular laws and then they not have to obey and follow those very same laws as you had mentioned in the above quote.
Second, What is so scary about my above quote and society the majority of society passing judgment and telling people with laws and other things how they are to live and conduct themselves in society? I will tell you what, NOTHING. What is scary to me is how those on the FAR left think everyone should be able to do what ever they please. What your telling me with “The fact of it is that each and every human gets one shot at life, we each should have the chance to live it as we see fit.” is you would allow and think it to be fine for a 40 year old man to marry a 13 year old girl, that it would be ok for cousins to marry, that it would be ok for a brother and sister to marry, that it would be ok for 1 man to marry 10 women, or 1 women to marry 10 men, or that crack cocaine should be sold in the local store, or if a father wishes to beat his children close to death that is fine, or if the father wishes to have sex with his own children that is ok, that if I wish to drive 80mph through a school district with children no problem, that if I wish to get absolutely loaded and drive that is no problem.
The point I am making is a statement that everyone should be able to do what they think is right for them is WRONG, absolutely wrong. If you truly believe that in your heart and soul then you HAVE to agree with everything else I listed because those choices will be what some (sick) in society will wish to make. Do not tell me for a minute that some 40 year old guy if “he has a shot to live his life as he saw fit” and a 13 year old willing girl was ok that the 40 year old would not be having his way with her. If you truly believe everyone deserves a shot to live their life as they see fit with no RULES or scary judgments then tell me you would absolutely allow all the other things I mentioned.
If your unable to allow everything I have mentioned then you are only talking the talk and not walking the walk.
I don’t take what your saying to me as a personal attack and I hope you do not take this as one but to those with the thought process of “hey I am ok here, who am I to worry about the other person” and “everyone deserves a shot at life as they see fit”.
That will never work and that is why there are laws on the book. Nothing more then judging people and TELLING them this is what you will do and how you will do it or suffer the consequences.
Democracy is NOT a mob rule, it is a majority rule and there is NO problem with that. In today’s society some of the problems are because to many people are “afraid” to speak there mine so regardless if 8000 people want say a park, but then 10 others don’t want it for some stupid reason the 10 with the big mouths and signs get their way.
So, if there is no rule by majority then who rules? Who makes the decisions? Someone has to, do they not? Who decides if the streets get paved or the fire department gets a new truck? Who decides if they need a police department? Then again who needs a police department with how the FAR left would like to see things “Everyone should have a shot at life as they see fit” so there is no need for laws because that WOULD get in the way of “as they see fit”
I am sorry but those 4 simple words “as they see fit” means lawlessness, no rules and mob rule to follow because in that type of society ONLY the strong would survive, it would be a “ANYTHING GOES” do as you please no need for any laws or rules, because laws and rules would get in the way of “as they see fit”
Meant by the MAJORITY of society, if 10,000 people what the street signs red and only 9,000 want them green then the majority wins and the street signs are red. It is very simple, you don’t ask 10,000 people if they want a police department in their neighborhood and if only 1 says no then to not build the police department. It is called tough luck, you loose, go get more support and build a majority to overturn the decision.
Nothing better then a good debate with some thoughts for others to think about as well…

OMG that is just scary. That quote right there is the biggest problem with the Republican party today. They see no problem whatsoever telling someone else how to live their life in a morally upstanding manner...(while they go live theirs as they see fit so long as they don't get caught) The fact of it is that each and every human gets one shot at life, we each should have the chance to live it as we see fit. not how W. Bush thinks we should live it.

WHOA this thread blew up quick.
Please explain that in a little detail. I think I understand a little what your saying, but am not to sure how to state.
Someone would always be offended and shout thats not right. Whether it's a black expo, white expo, italian expo, asian expo, etc. So in a sense it's not a double standard, but because people will get offended and scream racism makes it seem like a double standard?
Is that what you are trying to say?
The gay marriage issue, I'm not gonna touch that by itself. But the way this country takes marriage is a friggin joke, IMO. Somewhere along the years marriage lost it's original meaning, it's sacredness, etc. People get divorced and fight over the money and kids, get married to someone rich for the money, to selfish to make things work. We see those happen on a daily basis.
Flytrap - you nailed what I was stating. If religion does not approve of the gay lifestyle then how can that said person preach the word of *their god* and expect people to listen and not take the religion as a joke.
That is something I totally do not agree with. I have not seen any scientifical evidence saying that it's something you are born with. I believe that it is a decision that everyone makes on their own, some earlier then others. And because they made that decision early does not mean they were born that way. Every gay friend I have is same the way, they slowly made the choice to move to that lifestyle, and like I said some earlier then others..

I have to admit it is nice to debate without having people resort to name calling and mud slinging.
At least to this point anyway..............

There is not alot of compassion out there for gays and lesbians. The fact that most of the emphasis is based on sex is because that is really the only difference. I believe one is born that way. Why would anyone choose to live their life in a manner that is so vilified by the general public, and as stated in previous posts, against the very base of existence as stated in the bible.
I am not so Bible literate to be able to quote, but would someone that was born gay just automatically be "gay", or would they struggle for years with their sexuality and feelings, knowing that it is not "normal", and struggle to live life the "right way", and then finally after years of identity crisis, make the tough decision to come out. Some don't even come out to their families. Something like 75% of teen suicide is attributed to struggling with sexual identity.
There have been scientific studies suggesting that homosexuality is a trait one is born with. As far as it being definitive and traced to the exact gene or cell, I don't know.
dlf
Ok,
So this is not exactly what I meant.
I should have included that each person of legal age of consent has the right to live their life as they see fit so long as it does NOT infringe on others right to life, liberty, or property. This means that a 40 year old man cannot under any circumstances marry a 13 year old girl as she is not of legal age. A man beating his child doesn't work either as it causes harm to another. The point I am going for is that 2 or more people, who are of age, have the right to do what they want so long as it is consentual(sp?) and is not causing harm to another. (that covers the real freaks that like suffication during sex etc.) If 10 women want to marry one man, and they are all of age,...I don't have a problem with it. If 2 men want to marry, and they are of age, fine.
As they see fit as it pertains to their own lives. If they want to live in suach a manner that harms others life, liberty, or property, then no. They must live within the basic laws set forth in the constitution and those added by congress. Of course a thief cannot live as they see fit as that infringes on other peoples "Property". A murderer can't for the "Life" clause. Kidnappers can't for the "Liberty".
Have you been following what the democrats in the Senate have been doing to W's. judicial nominees? They are filliabustering them preventing their confirmation, this is a mob rule tactic. The Dems don't have the votes by them selves to deny the confirmation, but they can disregaurd the Constitution by turning the vote from majority of the Senate to a Super Majority via filabuster.
Democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what is for dinner.
Same scenario in a republic means the sheep is heavily armed.
Democracy is great untill you are in the minority.
The majority were never supposed to decide what the rules are. That is what the Constitution is for. I admit though that it has been more or less tossed out at this point. The longest a Constitutional Republic has ever lasted is around 200 years, We have thus far made it about 235. The decline of the US is happening now. I'm not sure how long it will last. (Please keep in mind that I do honestly LOVE this country and what it stood for) but we have gone from the law of the land being the Constitution to the law is decided by the majority and that will not work.
I'm having a lot of fun with this. This thread rocks!

Oh in case y'all haven't seen they did vote to allow the gay preist. Of course there a quite an uproar about it.

Facts are handy to have on your side during a debate; however credibility often sways people to your side. If you find yourself lacking credibility don't give people an chance to exploit any mistakes. If you need amplification on this ask Dan Quayle how to spell "potato".
NEATNESS COUNTS!!
Save the poor spelling and grammar for the "Snizzle yo Nizzle" threads.
I'm bored, so I'm going to throw out out a bunch of giberish here, that pertains to bits and pieces of several post. Feel free to pick it apart...
On the Black Expo thing. I don't like it. I don't see why we need Miss BLACK America, The NEGRO college fund, EBONY magazine, BLACK entertainment television, etc, etc... YES, without a doubt there would be riots a plenty if there were a Miss WHITE America, IVORY magazine, etc, etc... If they want to have AFRICAN expos, or AFRICAN this or that... that's fine... "African" is generally considered a culture. Thus there are caucasion Africans, or Africans of Asian or Hispanic, etc descent... Black is a reference to dark brown skin, nothing more... Martin Luther King, Jr., who usually gets referenced in such cases, supported equal rights, not "We're a minority, treat us special"... If someone can't be fired for their skin color, why should they be hired for their skin color? I don't care if you're black, white, green or blue... shut up, and get along... This subject has come up in my own personal life, and it really bugs the crap out of me... since my skin isn't quite the same as my GF's...
Okay, the subject of a gay Bishop. First of all I think homosexuality is disgusting, but I'm sure I do things some would see as disgusting, immoral, etc... I have no problems being a friend, coworker, etc, etc to someone who is gay. I just don't want to hear what goes on behind closed doors, and I sure as Hell don't want to see it parading down the streets. There's no vulgar parades to honor hetersexuality... If you're gay that's fine be gay, no one has the right to tell you what you do or don't like, but shut TF up, you're not special because of it... So, anyway, I think it's the Church's decision... I do think it a bit odd that a religion that preaches it is a sin would want a man like that in power... But that same religion also says we're all sinners, so go figure...
I've got several other opinions, but I need to look like I'm doing something around here...
I'll shut up now...
