Modern Technology
LOL, and to think that some people don't even have a PC.
Like my friend. I borrowed his VCR one night because mine quit and me and the kids were all ready to watch a movie I rented. The stores were closed or I would have ran out and got one for about $50. He wasn't in a hurry for me to return it, as he is a low tech person, didn't use it much, so months later, after my part of my house caught fire, I returned it to make space for the reconstruction, but couldn't find the remote to it. I looked every where. Mean while my friend is going on and on about how the VCR matched his (13 inch) TV perfectly, same brand and color ect. I called around found out it would be $35 to replace it. So, being the responsable person I am I went to the store and asked for (his brand) of DVD/VCR player, talked them into giving it to me for a mere $150 (choke) and presented it to him. He told me all he wants is his remote, and how he can't play movies without it because you need the remote to program it ect. I said look, I can't find it, when my house is done, and I clean it up, if I find it, I will give it to you, and then you will have a DVD/VCR plus your old VCR back. He just kept saying how wonderful his old VCR was (it wasn't - trust me) ect. and I kept telling him that now people can send him kodak CD's and he can see the pictures without a computer, in addition to being able to watch DVD movies when the store dosen't have the VCR version available ect.
Then guess what? He couldn't get it to work. (Suprise!?!) He played with it, we played with it, then he played with it some more for two weeks till finally I gave him the reciept and told him to go return it, and get whatever else he wanted from the store. (You can only have cash in 7 days)
To make life easier, I took a screen shot of the TV display on my camera first, then went to the store and showed the guy what it was doing. One guy (greedy jacka$$) told me my friend would need a new TV to display it. - yeah right! Then another guy said his TV had connectors like my friends, and it should work. So I said I was sending my friend in with the reciept and in the event they couldn't make my friend happy by showing him how to hook it up on one of their TV's, just give him whatever he wants with the store credit. Then I called my friend and told him to see "Andre" (the smart one) when he got there.
It turned out the thing actually didn't work!! They got a new one out of the box, hooked it up, and it worked, so he took it home.
Two weeks later it still takes my friend about 20 minutes just to turn it on, but what do you expect from a guy who has just been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century!
Looking way back, I can remember when I got my first answering machine, and how my friends loved being able to give me a message in the event I wasn't home, but my parents would always say "I hate talking to a machine"
Now my parents are retired, yet when I call them, I always get their machine!!!!
What I've learned:
Do NOT barrow other peoples electronic things.
Do NOT try to upgrade or buy electronics for low tech people. (It will likely be outdated before they figure out how to use it)
Thus people that want to will blunder their way into the 21st century when they are darn good and ready.

Hahaha...nice story. That story reminds me of....ME. I am currently taking electronics classes at tech school, and I have one year completed of a two year course. And I still can't learn to operate a digital camera...LOL!

I'm definately one of the first types...

RP
Haha, I have one of those(VCR's), along with a 27 inch tv and a DVD player. To top it off i have 5.1 surround sound...in my bedroom alone.
My dad has never used the computer only to play racing games, which has been a long time since. Which I had to set the game up for him. My mom uses it for email, and my brother to look at **** and what not.
I'm the computer geek in my family. I know my way around the computer, and plan on becoming a repairer when I grow up. Now that you've all read my life story, I'll shut up now.
