They are both good brands. Before you decide we need to know what kinda system you got. Processor, memory, hard drive etc..
All so what are you planning to do with this video card. Just browse the internet and print documents or play video games..

I built my computer and I got my video card for about $27 shipped. Not a big brand or anything, but it's got great quality, and great resolution. It's a Jetway Magic 316 64 meg card. If you're going to be gaming a lot or anything like that I'd naturally recommend something much better(as well as DV editing or something), but if you're going to be doing the kinda stuff I do (Edit photos in photoshop, create graphics, build websites an occasional game, surfing web etc) then you only need one like this.

One site i've found to be very very useful is http://www.pricewatch.com/ , you can easily search or browse and find the lowest prices on whatever parts you need there.

The best website, by far, to pick up a cheap video card is www.newegg.com I dont think there is anything cheaper out there.

If you're looking to do 3D gaming for $200 go with the biggest ATI Radeon 9600 or 9700 card. You'll get more bang for your buck that way. If you're looking for just a solid vid card with good capabilities to play games for $100 or so then get a Nvidia GeForce4 TI card. Sub $100 the Nvidia GeForce4 MX. You should have an AGP slot with the Celeron, but without knowing the Megahertz on it I can't recomend anything specific. If it's a Sub 1ghz machine then I would put the GeForce4 MX card in it. Anything else is basically faster than what your computer can keep up with at that point.

I have a 1.3Ghz AMD Athalon with a GeForce4 ti4400. Any video card faster than that is pretty much wasting money in this machine.

the AMD Athlon XP processors (as well as the rest of the AMD processors) Are way underrated in power on purpose so they run much fast than the equivilent by Intel. So I have a AMD Athlon XP 1800 (1.5 GHZ) and it runs faster than any Pentium 4 2.0 GHZ with the same amount of RAM etc.

 

Are you wanting it for Gaming or Watching TV or Design type work or what? Theres Graphics cards out there that are better in different areas. If you want to know the best graphics card for gaming, the new GeForce 4 5900 can render cinematics (Final Fantasy & Toy Story type stuff)

 

Yeah, I know, I've just seen benchmark curves with my processor compared to the higher end stuff and after the Geforce4 ti cards the percentage gain in speed is much lower than say an Athalon XP 2000 (or 2100?) Your processor is a bit of a step up from mine (pre XP processor). Mine compares with about a 1.5ghz P4.


eposey: That's a Geforce FX 5900, it's a generation past the Geforce 4ti cards. Not that it matters much, the real numbers to pay attention to are the 4400, 5900, (ati)9600, 9800 etc. At least for now. Something new comes out all the time.

Good strong card it got great views not only on neweggs site but other hardware sites. Comes with some cool games.

My system at the time was a Celeron 2.0ghz, 512 DDR 2100, 120GB 7200 IDE133. Which I was able to run all games at the max with max graphics & bots with no slow down. But it was using 90% of the resources.

I have since upgraded to a P4 2.4 with hyperthreading, 10,000rpm SATA, and 1gig RAM. And this time am I able to use the 8x AGP so I think this card would be a good choice now and if you decided to upgrade your machine in the near future.

 

Like I said above posts it pays to search and find the best price
