Shovels?

I'm thinking about buying a shovel, does anyone have some recommendations? I figure we can talk about shovels as long as we have about mowers

A shovel is not a good weapon for personal defense. Bottom line it is to heavy and not very aerodynamic. If you really want a good device for protection then chose a golf club. Bottom line a golf club is made to swing. The club is much more aerodynamic plus it weighs 1/8 of what a shovel weighs.

Are you trying to decide between the Caterpillar 5080 FS or the Komatsu PC128US-2?

LMAO!!!

Ya know, I'd say some probably won't get that joke but, having been raised by a maintenance manager for a large coal mine here in Kentucky, I not only know what you're talking about, I've sat in the 5080. LOL!

You being a smarta$$ decoy?

No, why would I do that? I'm just thinking about buying a shovel, but I don't mind waiting like three weeks until we all decide on one good shovel for me to buy

Well, I can safely say to avoid the long handled ©Spade with a built in level. Oh, it will last a long time, but that thing gave me blisters on top of blisters!

I have a friend who is like 6'7", I bet the right shovel would be perfect for him to use as a weapon!

I got a new shovel, it has a foamish handle, it's really nice. I got it at the Southern States store for 20 bucks.

I prefer the Ames line of shovels. Not only do they have better balance then the True Temper consumer grade, they are made right here in the good old USofA. Some of the Asian models like the HoleMaster and Dig-It are sleek and light weight, but do you want to buy one and put American workers on the street because their factory has been put out of business? I know...You may argue that there's no such thing as an American shovel any more, what with importing some of the parts...like Chinese steel blades, Brazilian hardwood handles and Sweedish rivets. Also, just because they might be assembled in Mexico and the labels are printed in Canada, at least the profits stay here in the US. That's why there's nothing but Ames shovels hangin' in my shed!

IMO.....you need 3 types of shovels.

#1 - Spade, for edging around mulched beds, sidewalk ect..

#2 - Round, for planting and digging.

#3 - Flat, for cleanup, moving piles from flat surfaces.

I like my shovel to have some weight to it. Adds more force to obtain better penetration.......With that said I'm off to dailymelons.com

I say you buy a gross of snow shovels, leave them out in plain view for your neighbors to see, and tell them "the BIG One is a commin' "

You ARE in Georgia, it COULD happen...I think

Thought I'd share this with you guys.

On my way home from work today, I passed a neighbor's house, and there was his teenage son and a buddy of his, shovels in hand, just diggin up a storm. I had to slow down to check out what type they were using. You know, those damn kids weren't using Ames or TruTemper shovels...no...they had the fancy import models! The son was holding a DigSahn Spade-O 1.9 turbo model! You know the one...it has the extended carbon fiber handle and the V-Tech blade. The other guy had a Ditch-A-Beech-E model 'Z' with the turned-up yellow blade ends (looks stupid, I know) and an aftermarket Fugi-Trencho Hi-Po chop stick-wood handle, still in primer yet! They both had a lot of stickers on them...like its gonna make em dig faster!

I had to laugh as I drove by because the faster they dug, the higher-pitched the fart sounds were. I could here this "brap, brap...brap, brap" for more than a block away. I just long for the old days, I guess, when there were REAL muscle Shovels.
