New F-150
New F-150
What is the general concensus of this group as to the value of the 1999-2003 F-150's holding their value in the next couple of years against the new body styles and motors coming out in 2004?
What worries me is the huge discounts they are giving to dump the old body style and old motors to make room for the new trucks. Say like I wanted to keep my truck for 3 years and trade it in....am I looking at paying it off to get rid of it? On a five year note, usually you are looking at 2.5 years to break even.
Do you think the new trucks are so much better that the older trucks will become ...say less then desireable and lose their resale value much quicker then previous years?
I read the post RP put up and it looks like the new F-150 is not only good, it is a sure fire winner, and probably the best truck ever built.

I've already noticed that the resale price on our trucks has been dropping. It will continue to do so for a few months, in my opinion.
I took a huge ding when my wife and I bought an 02 Accord SE and then they changed the body style in 03.

The huge incentives Ford is offering on '03s right now are a combination of declining market and what you fear.
The current bodystyle will take a 'hit' valuewise after the '04s are on the street.
The only way that won't happen is if half the 04's come back to the dealers on a hook.

Rockpick, I wouldn't worry much about your Honda. Hondas tradionally hold their resale values very well even after a model change. Go out and check out a 4 or 5 year old Accord vs a similar priced (when new) and a 4or 5 year old Taurus!! It will scare you to death. Don't get me wrong, the Tauruses' are good cars-- problem is that they don't hold their values like a Accord or a Camry.
P. S. We have a 2001 Accord EX. that we bought after we sold our 12 year old Acura Integra (112K) for nearly $5000.00. Try getting that for a Lumina of the same age!!
God help the big three Truck makers if Honda was to put their efforts into a full size (not tundra-size) Pickup!!

I'm pretty satisfied however; there was a substantial drop when the new model hit the lots. However, since that day, it hasn't gone down much at all...
I'm still very happy with the car. It's ultra-reliable and most importantly, my wife loves it.
