Electrician question

I was thinking about changing careers as I don't like what I am doing now. I was wanting to know if anyone knew the steps to become and electrician? Thanks

the easiest way is to look up your local office of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).

They will set you up with what is needed to start your apprenticeship.

Any ideas on how much they start out at pay wise in the Chicago area?

Don King was training to be an electrician before he became a lawyer.

He flunked wire colors.

first and second year apprentices make crap. By the time you hit 3rd year you're doing okay.
Keep in mind that you may start as a labourer first who make even less.
The plus side is that apprentice pay is graduated. As you progress you make more.

Most jurisdictions call for a 5 year apprenticeship, but again if you cointact your local IBEW office they can answer all of those questions in detail.
