First Time in an F150...I'm in love.
Yesterday, I stopped at a used truck lot to check out some prices for a friend who is looking to dump his old Dodge. I immediately noticed a perfect, white F150 sitting quietly in the back of the lot. It was love at first sight.
Not that I've never seen 150s before- you can't go anywhere without seeing one. But I had never touched one, sat in it and turned the key before (as I've posted before, I drive a Ranger).
This truck was like a big, beautiful cousin of my little Ranger; it was a basic XL work truck 4x2, white with a grey interior, bench seat and black rubber mats, just like my truck. But unlike my little pickup, this machine had a 4.6L V8, A/C, tilt wheel and cruise control! Also unlike my truck, this had such a huge cab, I didn't need the seat all the way back to be comfortable. In fact, there was so much room behind the seat, I could fit most of what now sits in my Ranger's in-bed toolbox back there. Although it was almost six years old, the doors and tailgate were solid and tight as a drum like a new truck. The ride height was amazing.
Then I turned the key. Oh boy. It's been many years since I sat behind the wheel of anything with a V8. In all honesty, I had to give the guy his keys back when he told me to take a test drive because I was afraid if I drove it, I would sell my Ranger on the spot and sign more of my life away to some bank!
Now I still love my Ranger. But I can't stop thinking about how, when and where I can manage to get into a 150.
Just thought I'd share that with guys who could surely understand (my girlfriend doesn't quite get it...)
Hmmmm, I wonder if I can drive by that used car lot today and get another peek at her....

If you really like it and the price is right why not get it?
I just finished putting four new shocks in my Ranger this weekend. I drove on my favorite, bumpy country road today and it rides like a new truck.
But now she just feels too small.
Maybe if I go ahead and test drive that 150 I'll get it outa my system. Yeah right.
Just for kicks, anyone who went from a compact truck to a 150 want to say what you like best about the fullsize versus your old truck?
Thanks.

well in 1998 my dad bought the f150 coming from a 1994 ranger splash.
all around the f'50d is a bigger bader and meaner truck.
my good friend chris drives a 93 ranger its green and looks almost like mine, (the 98) I call him junior only because his is smaller and weaker and such. everytime he sees me he goes "I wish I had a f150, they're so big and nice" and I just nod and agree.

I so dig it.
I'm gonna at least start crunching numbers in my head.
It's funny; here's where my forum handle comes from... I was always a big fan of WWII fighter planes. In fact, I always wanted to be a fighter pilot but an eye injury left me with less than 20-20 vision. Anyhow, after many years of reading about these planes, seeing them in air shows and building models of them, I became especially fond of the F4U Corsair. This big blue naval fighter with the huge 2,000 horsepower engine was often called the "hog" by its pilots. One pilot in particular, who commanded one of the most famous squadrons during the war, named his plane Big Hog.
I always said I'd like to get a fullsize, V8-powered truck, in dark blue like the old Corsair, and paint the words "Big Hog" on the tailgate (his plane had Big Hog painted on the tail, or rudder).
Just happens that the last few times I was looking for a new vehicle, I couldn't aford a fullsize unless I was willing to take something with extremely high miles. You can't call a little 4-cylinder truck "Big Hog." Just can't do it.
So, getting a 150 is sort of a dream. If it's dark blue, too good to be true.
I'll have to save my pennies and work some overtime!

Too many cars
Right now I have too many cars. I have my F-150 which I love and I bought it as my daily driver but then after I started putting too many miles on it (27 K a year) I picked up a little old s-10. This is now a daily driver but I'll tell you what, it's torture to drive that thing after I drive my F-150. I sometimes think I can run faster.
I went from a '00 Ranger, ext. cab, XLT with all the power options, 3.0 V6, automatic. It was black with the sport package. A real nice looking comfotable truck. It was a DOG! I drove that thing for nine months. I couldn't take all the downshifting and pinging. There was this red F150 at the dealership when I picked up the Ranger. Nine months later it was still there. It was a reg. cab, short bed, 4.6 with a 5-speed. I guess people don't like to shift any more.
Well the rest is history. I'm not looking back! The F150 is awsome! It wasn't long after finding this site that I caught the mod bug, in a big way.
So I traded in a practically brand new Ranger for a slightly used F150. I love every second I'm driving this truck!

My evolution has been from a Ranger to a Regular cab F-150 to the current beast. There is simply no comparison, F-250 CC, LB 4x4 with the V-10. I can cruise around with the family. Tow anything under the sun, fit anything in the bed and still get respectable gas mileage. Also it was cheaper than buying a new F-150. I picked mine up in Jan with only 12,000 and change on it. it rides incredibly smooth, must be wheelbase
Go big and don't look back. I will never own a smaller truck than this.
