Good Idea...

This is on Nissian's new Titan pick up.

I thought it was a good idea. Although it would not persuade me to buy one. I think it stands out way too much (should have body colored handle and a lip to cover that gasket), but the rest of the truck is ugly anyway...

I disagree, Ford had an idea like this one in the early to mid 70's. There box was located in front of the rear wheel however. I would think that putting it behind a rear wheel that throws all kinds of dirt and garbage up just would not be the ideal place to locate a box like this.

Is it just me, or does the bed on that thing look really shallow?

As far as the box, it's a cool idea, but it doesn't look very secure. I too remember seeing 70's Fords and Chevies with that on em. Now my dad has the ulimate, a flatbed with side saddle boxes. All metal construction.

Good idea, though it wasn't thought up by them. That truck is ugly! The box looks to be about 6 inches deep, and it is way too roundy and curvy... yuck!

You guys have some good points.
I did not remember the ones in the 70's...
and you are right about the placement,
should have been put in front of the rearwheel.
Also I bet a minor hit in the rearend would
pop that box open...
I just really liked the idea of using wasted
space. But Nissan could have executed it
better. Maybe this should be added to the Fugly thread.

Stands out too much in my opinion... and I'm not just saying that because it's a Toy... I'd say the same thing if it were a Ford...

Not to my knowledge. I've seen some aftermarket boxes that feature storage compartments on the side but none of them come stock (unless there's some secret work truck package that they offer - which could actually exist considering the amount of customization shops that are located on the edges of the plant boundaries that do that type of thing... they're everywhere around the plant...)

I've seen several around here too. Next one I see I'm gonna follow and ask if it's aftermarket or ordered from the factory.

Nissans got it going on. They put that special compartment on the truck so you can get to the jumper cables quickly, because they know you are definitely gonna need them if you buy that truck. I love that idea. They need to throw a matching compartment on the passenger side to put a set of wrenches and screw drivers in. You are definitely gonna need them too.

They need a compartment that has a blow up doll in it also, for any one that buys that thing. That's they only way they are going to be able to get laid.
