Good question. Never even really noticed.

Do all hot dogs come in packs of 12, or are there some 8 packs?

It's a conspiracy obviously...

Strange that Twinkies are sold in packs of 8 isn't it?

Unless of course you get the Hebrew National 1/4 lb. Dinner Beef Franks

Which come 6 to a pack.

By the way....

these are the best tasting hot dogs in the whole of the known universe....

hands down, no contest.

If you have not tried them I highly suggest you do.

It's a marketing strategy. You have to buy two packs of wieners, and three packs of buns, thus buying MORE...

I only do hotdogs if RockPick is coming over, not going to spend good money on good steak...

Only kidding the chap, I love hotdogs but it does kind of suck about the packaging deal they have...

If you buy 3 packs of Hot Dogs and 2 packs of hot dog rolls and 1 case of beer, then you will have 24 of each. No problem, right?

You know during the Clinton administration, Bill signed an executive order to have all hotdog buns packaged as 8 count since it was determined that Republicans eat more hot dogs then liberals. He then had the CEO of Oscar Mayer shot and put into a burning plane that crashed into a car as it went over a cliff and ruled it a suicide before the doomed CEO had his heart attack. All because the CEO didn't want to comply with packaging the hot dogs as 12 count. This should be called Wienergate. I suppose it's just a way to frustrate us more.

Because the people that make hot dogs are not the people that make buns.

Hot dogs, like most meat products (or meat-like products) are sold by the pound. The number of dogs per pound varies from 1/4lb "dinner franks" to the nasty little "10 in 1" dogs used in school lunch programs. So one manufacturer can have 4,6,8, or 10 in a standard package, and dozens in a jumbo package.

So what is a bakery to do? The bakery is going to do what it always has done-package their product for a reasonable size and compact package. Package shape is important to prevent the rolls from being smashed or broken: 2 rows of 4 rolls (8 total) make a squarish package, but 2 rows of 5 (10 total) are a little long and likely to break up while being shipped, stocked, etc.

The answer is to buy your dogs one at a time at the ball park and wash them down with $8 beers until you forget the whole thing.

And now that Iam thinking about it, Pauls answer sounds like the correct one

Would it work if you were to buy four packs of hot dogs, six packs of hot dog rolls, two cases of beer and a one pint of Jagermister?

Come to think of it, I'm not hungry so you could forget about the four packs of hot dogd and the six packs of hot dog rolls.

why is beer sold in multiples of 6?

cigarettes in 20's or 25's?

why isnt gas sold by the dollar? Meaning... the sign at the station tells you how many gallons or litres youcan get for your dollar... because we always put in $20, not hey buddy give me 10 gallons...

Why are cars based on 3 wide? If you had a really wide car like a Town Car, why not put in 4 seat belts in the back seat?
