Hey all, new here and considering a newer F-150

First off hi to all of ya'll. Here is the deal.I am going to sell my '66 Mustang as soon as I get the transmission rebuilt in my '71 so I can drive it. Then I have two options. I have decided I want to upgrade to a late model vehicle and get more knowledgable with fuel injections, computers, etc as I am a carb guy and used to the 60-70s stuff. So my first option is spend about 8-9k on my '85 GT and be done with it, have it exactly how I want. I need to do this within a year. Next year is my senior year in highschool then I'll be going to the Nascar Technical Institute in August of '04. Now I love late model stangs and got to looking...I cant find any good GTs in my price range. I'd have no cash for mods. Now I have always loved Lightnings. I got to looking and found I can afford reasonably some 99+ 2wd single cab flareside F-150s(my choice). So I thought I could pick one up for around 6-7k and spend some cash on ground effects, sidepipes, chip, pulleys, big wheels and wide tires, lighting front apron, shaker hood, etc etc and have a nice high performance truck for a daily driver and put up the '85 until after my year and a half at the nascar tech. I have only drove one late model F-150. 2001, ext cab, 4x4 with flowmaster exhaust, otherwise stock. I LOVE that thing. Now with a 5.4 and the afor mentioned truck how would it run stock? How hard would it be to get into 12s w/o a supercharger. I might could look into a Procharger next year or something. How are they geared from the factory? It would be my daily transportation and I'd feel better in a new vehicle. Have the 97+ had many quality issues? I have a big ol beat up '78 Scout for offroading and towing so thats no concern. I want something that handling is at least up to par with a V6 Mustang(not sure how exactly the actual lightnings even handle) and with Power around that of say a new '03 Mach 1 at least.

Getting a supercab 4x4 into the 12's (NA)...
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "next to impossible"

Getting a truck that size (4x4) into 12's is going to require big bucks, and a list of mods a mile long.

Good luck!

I think, actually pretty damn sure you will spend LESS money just buying the Lightning rather then a stock 5.4 and trying to get it into the 12's...

You would save yourself a lot of money just buying a lightning. I've looked at doing this myself and have a list totaling over 40K to do it right.
