Post Might have jumped ship..

It looks as though a GMC dealer out did the Ford dealers and got my money. After being treated to dog and pony shows, insulted and treated to a Very Large Array of poorly trained and badly motivated salesfolk from Ford and Chevy I walked into a Pontiac/GMC dealer this week.

Talk about having a good time. I test drove the new 2004 Grand Prix with the supercharged engine and every other option an autophile would love. Test drove the 03 Bonneville with the supercharger and everything else also. Both cars were extremely powerful and fast. They stuck to high speed corners like stink on $h1t. Priced both of them and found them very affordable.

Then a wonderful sales experience happened, after being treated like a decent human being, my salesman said "don't make a decision tonight" and offered to let me keep whatever I wanted on the lot over night, (GM has that promotion now and its a pleasant experience), even though he knew I still wanted to test drive one of his GMC's the next day.

The GMC selected for the test drive was the Sierra 2500 HD 4x4 SLT with the 6L 300 HP engine, it had the SLT Decor with the 6 CD and Bose sound system , It has the integrated leather arm rests on the leather captains chairs, full consol with steering wheel controls for the stereo, auto climate control, trip and fuel info and mileage readouts for two different people kept simultainiously. It road smoother than the Mercury Maurader I test drove this morning and was almost as quick. The truck does not sit nearly as high as the Super Duty so it slides effortlessly into my garage with inches to spare. It only had three tenths of a mile on the odometer but over thirty now.

They priced the truck at what worked out to be $4000 off MSRP plus the $3000 rebate. Then they gave me full Kelly Blue Book value for my truck even though the tires were getting thin and there were several blemishes on the paint of my 2000 XLT 4x4. They then tossed in the Bed liner and will put the cab lights on at no additional charge. After talking for a while I will get dealer pricing at a local outfitter provided I get everything added within 90 days.

It was such a pleasure to be treated like a human being. I spent too much time at the showroom and my bank was closed when I got out, but it looks like I will be the owner of a 3/4 ton decked out GMC come next Mon. or Tues..

Sounds like you found a good dealership, which these days isn't easy regardless what brand you choose. Also sounds like you did well with pricing. Given what I've read about GM's sales right now, you definitely should've gotten a good deal. One suggestion though before you depart. You might want to re-think the cab-top lights. I personally really like them, but only when they're factory installed. The thought of one of the dealerships 'well trained' service guys putting holes in the top of the truck just send shivers down my spine!

Oh, one last thing. I hope you made sure the bed was big enough.

I have owned mostly Ford products all of my life, but this last time around my shopping experience with Ford has been worse than dissappointing. Of course anything can happen between now and Mon. afternoon.

After checking out the web I have found no sites devoted to GMC trucks as of yet. So I will visit the Ford sites as the 04 F-150 still intrigues me. Besides, I don't want to miss RockPicks "Captions".

If I ever buy a digital camera I will post a picture of the truck. It actually is quite handsome.

Well man, you're welcome to participate in the 'CAPTION CONTEST' anytime you wish. Even if you are behind the wheel of a GM vehicle.

At least it's American!

Good Luck!

Your experiance with FoMoCo dealers is exactly why I swithced from GM. I had been a Chevy owner for most of my 56 years, but GM just couldn't realize that there are "other" brands out there! I finally found a Ford dealer that I feel "bends over backwards" to make a customer satisfied! They get return business that way, from me anyway!

Believe it or not Mike, I went with the 6 1/2 bed. I am going to get a bed extender and have a cabinet maker build a water tight and lockable frame to go over the extender.. With the Pewter truck color I think a Burled Walnut finish over the extender will look quite nice. If I put a real heavy coat of lacquer over it I think it will last three or four years. By then the new Ford should be very well broke in and even the new tranny should have its bugs worked out. I'm thinking 07 or 08 for my next one.

So it looks like you got me on that one.

Like the others have said, as long as your happy then great and it is an American built truck.

I wouldn't buy no foreign made car/truck. Sure most are built here in America but they are not American and they do NOT support the economy except for some jobs. Almost ALL the profits go HOME to the foreign country. They, the foreign, are built here for ONE reason and ONE reason only so the foreign company can make MORE profit to send home, no import taxes etc...

That is definitely a nice truck; the GMC's are MUCH better looking than the Chevys.

Check out GM-Trucks.com.
