"Foreign Relations"...
OK. I've been involved in a large project in my company. It requires that I spend 1 full week a month (May to September) with 29 other folks, some from all over the planet:
Ireland
England
New Zealand
Korea
Mexico
France
Spain
Canada
Japan
Puerto Rico
Australia
Now, after spending 3 weeks with these folks we are bridging language barriers, customs, etc. and a few things really jump out at me:
We have it very good in this country.
Other country's perception of how things are in the US are VERY skewed. The Canadians particulary surprised me here. They were positive that 40% of the US population was "poverty" level, 15% "middle class" and the rest are "rich".
The folks from New Zealand, Spain and Australia are the most laid back and accepting. Very nice folks.
The orientals are very reserved and respectful. They admit they are now struggling economically with the same issues as the US has had for years. (Unemployment, employee apathy, etc.)
But, the real reason for my post is this:
The English and Irish are the rudest, most arrogant folks in the group!
All day long I hear comments and complaints about the US:
Too much food
Too many large vehicles (Full size trucks are 1 of their top bitche$)
Too many shopping malls
Too cheap gasoline
and on and on...
I made a comment about one of the items they were unhappy about - Gasoline prices.
Gasoline is not any cheaper in the US. We simply choose to fund our MEDICAL system in a method that doesn't add cost to our fuel. They were completely unaware that we don't have "national" medical coverage in the US.
Also, on one side of the coin we're too much of an isolationist nation but-
We get involved elsewhere when we shouldn't (Iraq).
I always thought that the English and Irish were some of our best allies. It kinda' seems like they only want our money and help if needed.
Oh well, sorry for the rant. I just became weary of the US-bashing and criticism by folks that should remember who their real allies really are...

Opinions, everybody's got one just like a..holes.
Interesting observations B-man. I share your opinion of the Spanish and the Australians, don't know any New Zealanders.
I used to work with an older gal from New Zealand. She was one of the nicest people there at that job. I loved to just hear her talk so I asked her a lot of questions. If I were to ever move out of the states, I'd go Kiwi or Aussie.
Hang on a minute. Who are these English people?
Doesn't sound like many that I know. We are pretty up on world affairs and perfectly aware what causes the differences in the price of gas, for example.
You must have got a reject bunch there. What are they over there for? What's the job?
I've got to say that I'm pretty curious. Let me assure you that probably 99% of English people actually like America, like American people and are only slightly jealous of the shopping malls.
We even appreciate you joining in WW2 even if you did miss the kick-off.

Australia, man I loved that place. I got to go there twice while in the Navy. Both times were for 3 weeks. I can just about bet I have a little one running around over there…
I believe what you posted as far as the perception you may have got from some of the English people you met. However, I have probably known 10 – 15 through my time and they we’re all very nice and respectful and loved America.
You may have just met a few morons. It is no different I would believe when some Americans go overseas for visit and a few of the Americans end up being morons and then that country may get a bad idea of America based on just a few people. Maybe chalk it up to they haven’t got laid in a while and they don’t know Fast Gator and his connections…
EDIT:
Perfect example is when the Vice President of my division goes overseas I am positive they get a feeling that America has all these morons that think they know EVERYTHING but then don't know sh*t...
After his last visit I am thinking we may have a relations problem with China now...

LMAO @ 01 XLT... keep your focus on Gator... forget about that Rockpick guy. He's going to be out of pocket for a few days on business and won't be able to defend himself from all the attacks that will occur...
Think Gator... not rockpick....

Never met English people in person but I do know they are really friendly and polite what traffic is concerned.
They come ashore 5 miles from me from Harwich taking the Stena Line ferry.
Usually at around 4.00/5.00 pm just when I come back from making deliveries.
To get to my house I have to make a turn left waiting on this lane.
Now if a car comes from the opposite direction and stops to let me turn left (he shouldn,t have to) 100% sure it's a driver from England.
If this car is on the wrong side of the road, he's from England too.
Now, English football fans is quite a different story.
