I still remember my bus rides. We had one driver who threatened us with the emergency axe.

Sleeping gas may be effective, but then someone would have to carry them off the bus. I vote mandatory 5 point harness and a duct tape muzzle.

The seatbelt law only provides the insurance companies with added saving, police with added revenue and our lives a little more controlled.

Besides my luck is that I'd climb out of the wreckage unscathed, saved by the seatbelt, and I'd be run down by the first cruiser on the scene!

I used to be totally against seat belts. I thought they were uncomfortable and didn't think it was fair that I could be fined for not wearing it.

Then I got a vehicle with an air bag. It took a while but the more I heard about people being killed by the air bag in a minor accident the more I thought I should probably wear my seat belt.

It's habbit now. I always put it on before I get going. I was in a minor accident earlier this year. The seat belt kept me in my seat and allowed me to have at least enough control to keep the accident from being worse.

ALL the school buses now need to be equiped with at least lap belts for the passangers.

no!!

i am responsible for 72 kids at a time. in norrisstown...the district i drive in...you cant do a school run without doing a RR crossing, which is dangerous enough, now with seat belts, if i loose the trans on the tracks, bus catces on fire...which happens to me at least twice a semester(water leaking onto the headlight switch, and the rear heater)...and the such, i have to evac the kids as soon as possible, and all the sestbelt swill do is hinder that! in new jersy they have belts

the buses are designed that in a accident, ANYONE sitting in the passenger area will be safe, due to "cocoonazation" which means IF they are sitting down they cant move far enough to get hurt. thats why i am so tuff on my kids to stay in there seats!

anything you need to know about a schoolbus, ask if i dont know the answer i will find it out for you

Just to add a little stupidity to this conversation, I live in Florida which is easily one of the most irrational states in the country when it comes to the application of law. Case in point. Don't wear your seatbelt, and Johnny Law with privide you with a hefty ticket. After all, we have a seatbelt law. Don't wear a helmet on your motorcycle, no sweat. There is no helmet law. Simply show proof of $10K worth of insurance and you're good to go. Just for kicks, I recently checked with a doctor friend who mentioned that if a motorcycle accident victim has to be airlifted to the hospital (which many do), the helicopter ride and EMT bill alone will pretty much eat up the $10K. So as 01 noted, we all get to pay their bill.

My true feelings about seatbelts: I don't like to be told to wear one, but it really isn't a big deal in the overall scheme of life. It might even save my life someday. And as for motorcyclists rights to 'not' wear a helmet in Florida; require $1M of insurance per rider and let them do what they want. Otherwise, have them put their d*mn helmets on and shut up. Oh, did I forget to mention I've owned and riden a bike for the past 8 years?

Where are you taking those sweet little kiddies on Sunday, New Jersey State Prison for a scared straight program?

And why would you want a vehicle thats carring 70+ students paint a "high impact" color, wouldn't a "high miss" color be better
