Exclamation I need a Floor Jack

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a floor jack for my truck, 1998 Ford Ranger Xlt Flareside. I want a good, solid, and high lifting floor jack. I have one that's a total pos $10 store bought so called jack. I want something that can handle at very least 2 Tons w/o a problem. Something that can actually lift the front wheels up into the air so I can work underneath w/o having to squirm around. The cheapy that I have now can barely, and I mean barely lift the front wheels off the ground on my Ranger. I am willing to spend that extra dollar on this jack. What brands of jacks should I look for???? what should I look for to indicate it's a good jack. Tks all,,,,,,,91

I've had good luck with Craftsman. I know they've got a truck/SUV jack with one pump up, and supposed to be extra high lift. I haven't used that one, and I honestly don't know who makes them, but they seem to be pretty good, and comparably priced...

walmart

I picked one up at walmart and it lifts 2.5 tons in 2 pumps, its made for suv's and lifts from 7 1/4"-21". It costs 40 bucks and it has a safety stop pin after you jack it up there is a pin 3/4" that goes all the way thru the lift part of the jack so if the seal fails it will rest on the stop pin. almost like a jack stand, but always use a real jack stand when you are underneath as i am sure you know. Lifted the 4x4 explorer in 2 pumps.

I just got a Craftsman 3 ton jack (6"-21" lift) with 2 3 ton jack stands for $49.99 from Sears at one of their sales. I needed one for a while and I kept an eye out everywhere (walmart, autozone, o'reilly, sams club) and this was by far the best deal. They had the 2 ton jacks on sale too... of course they were alot cheaper... and sears has a sale like every weekend so definitely wait for the sale!

That is the one I have and it works AWESOME, I can get my F150 plenty high enough. I believe it is a 2 1/2 ton jack, might be 3 ton, not sure but it works great and the price wasn't bad. Don't recall what I paid for it but it was a very good price.

The one pump feature is excellent, your not down there pumping it like 20 times before it meets the frame...

Tks guys, I'll keep my eyes peeled for one. The one I have now is called a MVP Pro Lift. Red, very small, tiny shaft, and it takes a little while to get the car up. One of the wheels fell off it and I guess it bent the little threaded shaft where the wheel holds onto. Before I sold my F150, It couldn't take the weight of it and I guess it bent right there. One of my good buddies told me you can take some 4x8 or 2x6 board and custom cut them so you can drive the vehicle up on them. Tks again guys, matter of fact, I"m goin shoppin right now, lol,,,,91

I would recomend at least a 3 ton jack. I got mine from Wally World - it's an MVP hi-jack or quick-jack or something like that. I would not recomend it. It puts the jack to the frame in half a pump, but then it takes 20 or so pumps to jack it up the rest of the way. I exchanged it for another one, but it's the same way.

I've seen sears often has their 3 ton floor jack on sale, and it comes w/ a creeeper, safety stands (a must have), seat creeper, and a lug wrench for like $90-100. I think it was in the add this on sale ... if not I would wait and jump on that deal. Most 3 ton jacks are ~$100 by themselves.

Remember everyone ... always use the safety stands - don't trust the floor jack by itself!
