Question Recomendation - Sport Bike

I'm thinking about getting a Super Sport bike "a.k.a. Rice Rocket".

What do those who have one, recomend? I'd like to stay around 600-750 tops. I've never driven a motorized bike in my life so I don't want anything with too much power. At least not right now.

Also those in Mighty MO, do you need to have a Motorcyle drivers licence or will a regular DL work?

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

License

Yes you need a license. The Missouri motorcycle test is real easy. After you past the test they give you a permit and then you have 6 months to take the Driving part. But if you take the Motorcycle safety course they will give your license when you show them that you passed the course. Easy For the bike Definately get a 600 to start. You can always go up. You get too big and you won't be able to get a smaller one if you are wrapped around a tree. Plenty of those in Missouri.

Silver Streak,
They all are too fast. It doesn't matter if you get the lowest powered 600 sportbike out there you still have to show it the same respect as the highest powered one. I offer you a suggestion - Get the best one that you can afford. It will only go as fast as you are willing to ride it. You won't be trying to sell a bottom of the line bike when your thirst for better performance needs quenching. The price ranges are pretty dang close for all of them but when you try to sell it, the top dog retains more of its value.

I purchased my CBR1100XX as a first bike. I had never been on a bike with the kickstand up much less knew how to ride. I learned how to ride on the street that the guy I bought the bike from lived and rode it home more than 200miles away the same day(about 40minutes later actually). Don't be afraid of them, just respect the power.

If I were in the market for a 600-750 I would have a hard time NOT buying the Suzuki GSXR-750.

Goodluck.

not to pop your bubble but if you want to enjoy motorcycling for a long time do yourself a favor and find a starter bike first. then after you've logged at least a few thousand miles you can look at rice rockets.
no joke here. they are all way too powerful for you. the thought of them being as fast as you drive it is wrong. way too easy to get over confident, miss read a turn, stand her up, and you're gone. there may not be a second chance for you.
trust me on this i've shown many how to ride and then got them on their rockets and all have said thank you for making them learn to ride first.
if you are stuck on a rocket, i would recommend a katana 600, or zx6e, or sv650. all of these bikes do have some serious power but not the kind that will literally throw you off the bike if you're not paying attention.

My husband just bought a Suzuki GSXR750 and loves it!!!

That might be too much bike for you, if you have never ridden before, but I am not the one to ask.

Check out our website, and go to the Motorcycle Forum, and those guys could help you out with any questions and all the facts about different kinds of bikes you are interested in.

Good luck, and keep the rubber side down

out of your list the only possibility would be the yzf600r. NOT the r6.
better still would be, kawasaki ex500, suzuki gs550 or gs500, suzuki katana 600, suzuki sv650, kawasaki ninja250, or possibly an older as in 87-88 cbr 600 hurricane.
find one used, pick it up cheap, then when you can correctly use the power band and tires of the machine, and you know how to corner it and read the roads you're on, then go get any 600 ss you desire.
all of the bikes listed above are capable of getting over 100 mph and doing it quickly, just not as hyper sensitive as a full on rocket. buy something small and then learn to ride first.

Check your area for a beginner’s course, well worth the time. Here in MA if you go into the course with your permit, you will come out of the weekend course with your license, alot more knowledgeable and an insurance discount.

Go to a few different dealers and see what you are comfortable on. When I first started out, a buddy let me borrow his GSXR750 whenever I wanted. I found that my elbows and shoulders would throb after a 20-minute ride. I found that on the CBR I was a little more upright and more comfortable riding.

I ended up with a Kawasaki ZRX1200 and love the bike. $7200.00 out the door. Soooo much more comfortable and still enough power smoke just about everything out there.

Good Luck!

I had a CBR600 F4i as my first streetbike. It was fun but, I'm weak willed when it comes to going safe speeds. Too many times I got off of it and said to myself "that was stupid, I'll never do 130 in a 55 again"....then the very next day "I'll never do 140 in a 55 again"..So I sold it. It wasn't too much bike -not even close. The new R6 is awesome, get that one.

I agree with Wildchild. Get a more beginner friendly bike as your first machine. They will still be plenty fast. Get some skills before you get the repli-racer crotch rocket.

When I got my first MC license in the '80's, I believe the statistics were more than 50% of motorcycle fatalities were people with less than one year's riding experience. A performance oriented first bike is not going to help your odds, IMO.

Yamaha R6- Small chassis, very quick and agile
Suzuki GSX-R - Most nimble of the four bikes listed here, most uncomfortable
Kawasaki Ninja 6xx- Quick bike, ergomics fair, agility in question, good all around bike
Honda CBR 6000 F4i - Quick, handles well, comfortable- perfect all round bike, not very "hardcore" (its all relative) in any specific area

Ducati makes nice bikes, but they are slower than their Japanese counterparts and they are $$$$$$. Whatever they cost, they make up for in looks and sound.

Triumph makes good bikes, and so does Buell, but they lack that Japanese high string edge.

In the end its your call. Whether you have a 600 cc bike (mid to low 11's in the 1/4) or a 1000cc bike (deep 10's), if you are stupid, you will kill yourself.

Just keep your head on straight and it will stay on straight

Spend $1000 on your first bike. When you drop it you won't care. When you're done with it in 6 or 12 months, sell it for $950.

TAKE A MSF COURSE AND BUY PROPER PROTECTIVE APPAREL BEFORE OR WHEN YOU GET YOUR BIKE. Don't be stupid and spend all your money on the bike and not have any left over.

Do a search on road rash if you disagree with me. People will turn left in front of you. People will move into your lane and displace you. You are invisible.

If only it werent' so fun...
