Is this guy French?
Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, speaking to reporters Tuesday, made no mention of Saddam’s fate, and rejected any suggestion that Iraq would surrender to American forces drawing a noose around the regime. “They will be burnt. We are going to tackle them,” he said.
WTF? “We are going to tackle them”
What does this guy think we are there for? A friendly game of football?
I say:
Go long, yep, keep going, here it comes the long BOMB... KOOOOBOOOOOMMMM.

So far he has been the biggest joke of this war!! He says on his daily press farce (conference) that we have not come into Baghdad yet he cannot do his press conferneces in his building because we have torn it up!!
He is a moron and should be one of our leadership targets!

i liked it when the reporter told one of the soldiers that the information minister said they weren't in baghdad and the soldier replied, "really, let's go over and ask him" seems they were only a few blocks away from him.
Yes Bill,
How's your dutch.!!
http://www.wxs.nl/planet/show/id=851...3111/sc=0f7475
On Wednesday just before US troops went in Baghdad.
The article is also mentioning the Bagdad deal.
Russia got 5 billion US dollars from the US to negotiate the surrender of SH and Bagdad.
It might explain why there wasn't "much" resistance.
Probably just a rumour.

Hey CJ:
I figured out pretty much all of the Dutch article but when I went to the Iranian paper I got really lost. Took me two minutes to figure out the scroll bar was on the left
The Debka site is continuing to develop the story and if you go back several days they had some other interesting things to say.
As to the Dutch article, the reference to the payment to Russia for getting Saddam out and stopping most of the fighting, that was almost what we here call a "throwaway line". That would be absolute headline news over here. Makes me wonder what kind of info we are really getting. I can access through AOL every major newspaper in the world and I have been doing so quite a bit the last week. I am ok in several languages as you know but as well a lot of them kindly have an English language edition too.
Guess I must be a bit simple but I find the news coming out of Stockholm/Madrid/Singapore/London or wherever sure ain't the same news I get in my Atlanta paper
To return to the original topic, it has long been reported in the American press that there has been a small group of men, some in the government, some no longer there, that have been pushing very hard for American hegemony in several parts of the world and certainly the Middle East. Wolfowitz and Perle (spelling may be off) are two most often mentioned in this regard. Their primary focus is the threat of terrorism but I am sure there are some economic issues and "realpolitik" power struggles in the mix as well. They seem to have a good deal of influence over the decision makers in our top levels of Government.
In the very short term, today, we seem to be going back and forth again with Bush being very aggressive and Powell trying to be at least a little diplomatic. There is this little voice in the back of my brain telling me this may be deja vu all over again and maybe some of the "decisions" have already been made.
Just have to stay tuned.
Bill
Sorry CJ got this thread mixed up at the end with the one on Syria next?
