Question on Pop-Up Trailers...
Not sure where to post this, but this seems like the best thread.
Anybody have any experience with pop-up trailers? My daughter and I like camping, but I am not really interested in a regular trailer. I didn’t really buy my truck for towing more then my old race car which with car and trailer was about 3,500 – 3,800lbs. Which was fine for my truck a 4.2 5-speed 3.55L/S.
I know it would not have any problem pulling a pop-up. The ones I was looking at run from $4,500 to $7,000 and they seem pretty nice. They have like a stove, refrigerator, and 20,000btu heaters in them.
Anyway, they are having a spring (12” of snow) sale on them at a shopping center in town so I was hoping some of you may have had experience with them, pros and cons, what to look for etc.
Thanks for any information you have.
I didn't add that the fact I like the idea about pop-up trailers is it would be easier to store.

We've never owned a tent trailer, but here's something to consider:
If it's just the 2 of you going camping, you could consider a Boler.
They are small, lightweight, and can easily be towed with a small 4 cylinder car.
For 2 people, the layout is great, there's a double bed, a single bed, fridge, stove, and plenty of cupboard and storage space.
Also, many of them come with an "add-a-room" option,
The nice thing about it, once you arrive at your destination, there's no messing around with popping it up, and getting it ready, you just get in and go to sleep.
Also, they can be bought for a low price, $2,000 - 3,000 Canadian, which makes them quite a bit less expensive than a tent trailer.
Anyways, here's a boler site you can look at to get ideas, and see the lay-out.
Good luck!

A friend of mine has an "Apache" pop-up trailer. I believe it's a 78 model he purchased from a guy in Ohio a couple of years ago. Was in like-new condition and was only 1300 bucks. It weighs approx. 2200 pounds. He tows it with a Honda Odyssey mini-van and it tows easily.
It's pretty nice inside for a small trailer and it can sleep up to 6 adults. Although I wouldnt want to be in it with 5 other adults. It's plenty of room for his family of 4. I'd check Ebay.

Definately a riot....
I'm impressed that Z's customer service team put that together considering that it definately reveals the 'secret ingredient'.
Looks like they need to thaw the place out for better productivity for their staff though. LOL!

Here's a few more sites to check out-

Pop-up Times is a pay site, the other two are free, as is iRV2.
We've owned a couple pop-ups, and as you have said, they are very manueverable. Most, if not all, come with 6 ft. beds, heaters, 3 burner stoves, iceboxes or frigs, and some even have toilets.
This is probably the best time to buy, as dealers are unloading whatever they can for new inventory, plus there are many camper shows that offer deals.
I pull a 85 Palomino MXL pop-up with a 90 XLT Lariat 4.9 AOD 4X4, and I get about 13-16 mpg on the highway.

Thanks, those are some nice sites. I am going to look at some pop-ups today. There is a show at the local mall.
Question, to anyone. I know about buying trucks, cars etc and you can usally get the price down with some talking. What about pop-ups, is the price they have the price they usally get? or can you usally get it down with talking, and if so how much off is considered good? 5%, 15% etc.

I used to frequent the camper forum's a lot, slacked off a little lately (I sold my 26ft Prowler). From what I've read on travel trailers, you should be able to bargain down 25% of the price but I'm not sure if that applies to pop-ups also.
I had bought new, sold it to free up credit for buying a house. While it's always nice to buy new and be the first owner I'll SERIOUSLY consider used next time. There are A LOT of people out there that buy new and decide camping is not for them or they want a bigger setup. They use the camper's only a couple times and sell them cheap - the market value drops very quickly yet they still look new. Just something to think about...

I had a pop-up that I use to take to races. While it servered it purpose, I decided I needed more room and more luxury. So I sold it and bought a 24 footer. After a year of pulling it to the Nascar races I decidedI needed more room. Now I got a 39 footer and wish I still had my pop-up.
You make your own decisions, but Iam sure you and your daughter will enjoy it the first couple of times out in the woods

You might also consider a 13' or 16' Casita or Scamp. There's minimal set-up and very easy to pull.
You should be able to find a good used one. Being fiberglass, they last a very long time.
We love our 17' Casita.
See sig for Casita link.
