well Tuna why dont you look at my post above where i said that 19,000 was a bit high for a Focus. I would venture to guess that no one on these boards actaully thought that the 28,000 was American.
Ok i rest my case. Ford cars rock!!

You gotta be kidding! What Japanese cars did for our economy was this...For a period in the early 80's the only reliable, quality built cars Americans could buy were made in Japan. Then, the Japanese "voluntarily" (read: found an excuse to raise prices very high) limited their imports to the US and taught US automakers a thing or two about efficient manufacturing. Then, they put their own economy into a tailspin that they haven't recovered from in 13 years!

I lived in Japan for several years. They do not know what hit them. During the 13 years that the Japanese economy has been spiralling downward, the US economy has pretty much exploded. Even our currently depressed stock market is something like 5 times as high as it was in 1987, and 2.5 times as high as its previous (to 1987) all time high. All this while the Japanese stock market is about 20% (yes, 20%!) of its all time high at the end of 1989.

I used to buy Japanese cars all the time, because they were the only ones that would last more than 2 years or so (can you say "Vega"?) Now, I would NEVER buy one, not because they are not good cars, but because the home boys make good ones too, and they are cheaper than the Japanese brands, typically. I have been looking at a Focus for my wife (who is Japanese!), as a replacement for the Taurus she drives now...The Focus is an excellent car.

So, in Car Wars, the Japanese won the battles back when, but they have definitely lost the war.

Just my 2 yen...

TS
I never said that the Japenese car manufactors didn't teach the American car manufactors a thing or two about quality. FYI...I purchased a 1978 E-50 Cargo van new, that I put 185,000 miles on with no problems (I put a water pump/timing chain, starter, and about a 2 dozen set s of tires on.) I also purchased a 1980 Trans-Am new, that was a POS.

But consider this......
If EVERY American thought as I do, and tried to purchase only goods manufactored in the USA, how strong do you think our economy would be? What would happen if the American consumer demanded that our household goods be built and manufactored in this country, everything from kitchen towels to television sets. Then the manufactors of said goods would look to bring back the factories, that where once here, to the United States. Yes, things would cost more. But the turn-around would be full circle, as the workers of this country would be fully employed, instead of collecting welfare/unemployment. Minimum wages would go up, and it would be a win/win situation.

Tuna, read my answer to TexasSteve and maybe you can understand my point. But to answer you, yes I have a japanese cell phone. If an American built one was available, I would have bought it, no questions asked! As far as a TV, in my living room sits a RCA ProScan, manufactored in Bloomington IN. While my next TV (60" Plasma) is manufactored overseas, I would gladly pay more for a TV that provided American jobs!

Have a nice day gentlemen

BTW......Habibi, bet your wife is happy now

Green you still dont get it,I know the 28 G figure was Canadian which is @ 19 G American. He said he didnt pay anywhere near that(meaning he paid alot less than 19 G ).Now do do you understand what I was saying.Could be my fault perhaps I didnt make it clear that i was reffering to the 19 G figure. He probably paid @ $16,000-17,000 now do you think he got screwed.

Tuna i understand exactly whats going on. Im just saying that for 16-17 for the focus, ....well hell im not even going to argue with anyone anymore. I guess those 'foreign' cars (hence the 80%+ made in the US) wont hang on to the US cars.....im done arguing each to his own.
peace

Looks like a great car Habibi, my friend has a 4 door sedan Focus, and it is a great car. I got to drive it once and have ridden with her in it a couple times and they are sweet cars. I am glad that you and your wife are happy.

Habibi:

DAMN, that is NICE inside. I never really looked at one except from the outside. That looks pretty plush.

Ok all as far a Japan is concerned everyone must remember it was AMERICA that made it possible for Japan to build what they have built in the past and present.

They use to build total CRAP, then we nuked them and it seemed to breed knowledge. So, in a round about way Japans quality can be linked back to good ol’ America know-how.

Isn’t a Honda a motorcycle? Who the hell wants a motorcycle engine in a go-cart size car?

Green_98,

Go back and read the title of this thread "Wife's Car Arrived Today"

I didn't title it "Hey, did I get a good deal?"
or
"Was there a better car I could've Got?"
or
" Looking for people to insult my judgment, please reply"

This is a pretty friendly forum, and it's filled with many regulars who enjoy talking with each other, and sharing experiences about Ford's, and life in general.

I've really enjoyed this forum up to this moment..

Now, I've been biting my tongue until now, but since you insist on insulting me and my wife, I have 4 words for you... "GFYS"

Sincerely
Habibi

Habibi:

That is a really nice car. I can’t believe how plush it looks inside. Question for you, because I don’t know. Did the Focus take over the Escort line? We had an Escort wagon back in 93 it was a really nice car and I liked it, but it sure wasn’t as plush inside as your wife’s.

Have you driven it yet? If so what do you think of it?

I had an 87 GT, loved it, was really nice to drive. Thanks I didn't know if the Escort line had been replaced, but after thinking about it after your post I do recall seeing some at the dealer.
