Why do we broadcast Operations!!

It makes absoulutely no sense to me why we have to broadcast live our operations in Iraq!! I'm watching ABC and they are showing how many vehicles, personnel, where were at, where were going, etc... Lives are at stake!! Sure everyone wants to stay informed, but at what cost? Now they are doing interviews with the soldiers in a combat zone!! Sorry had to vent!! I just don't get it!!

Pretty soon they are going to mount those cameras on the solidiers helmets that look back at their faces like the ones on Fear Factor or other shows!! They'll be talking to them while they're trying to dodge bullets or do covert ops!!

i dont understand that either. Why would they be on TV that all of America as well as Iraq is watching? It seems that this could help Iraq in their defense effors to know what we have, how many of what were using, and where we are. Doesnt make too much sense.

Well, from the looks of things, the reporters are on pretty tight reigns. All the cable channels are brodcasting from their groups. I know on Fox news one of the guys is not allowed to say much or brodcast images because he's more up front. I also heard that the commanders can pull the plug on em at any time. Overall I think they are being pretty carefull so far. It's interesting for sure. I guess we'll get analysis on how it all went when it's over.

Yea, I have always wondered the same thing. Why have so much coverage on things, that could help our enemys out. Oh well, as long as they are being very cautious, then it should all be good.

I agree.....they give you the location and heck they might as well just map it all out for the enemy, sometimes I think there is just too much news. The one's that really get me are the guys that say "well Iraq could really get us by doing this.......or by doing that" ...........yeah give the enemy some ideas, thats just great.

I think it's sort of like COPS. Riding along on a bust of the thugs.

I strongly agree! I rather read about it in the next mornings newspaper, rather than put ONE US soldier or any other friendly countrys men/women in harms way because some newsman wants to be the first to get a story out

I agree they shouldn't be broadcasting within the troops and showing so much detail and giving out information. We need to use the "act of surprise" tactic on this A-Hole...and this is not coming up on them by surprise at all!

However, if they weren't showing something on the news...everyone would be complaining how we are "in the dark" and that the government is "hiding" things from us.....

Either way, you can't make everyone happy

Thumbs up

I'm on an installation this week eating with troops. In the dining facility there is a large screen TV with continuous CNN coverage.

A reporter stationed with a combat unit said that "earlier in the morning the Iraqis had fired artilliary to the West of them about..."

then he stopped and said, "...perhaps I shouldn't say how far West it was..."

The dining facility erupted in Cheers, laughter, and applause!
