60K srvc for my 99F150

Well, before I go bend over at the local Ford dealership service center I figured I would ask the pro's what to expect..... I just turned over 60K on my 99f150 s/c 4x4... I bought it at just over 30k and the guy I bought it from was nice enough to have the service done for me... It has taken me just over a year to rack up the last 30k and all seems pretty good. I called a few months ago and had the dealer fax me the run down for the service and I think it was around $550.. There did seem to be a few things on there that I question... Do I really need a new battery? I think that was around $100... and the truck is only about 3.5 yrs old... Any advice from someone whose been through this would be great!

You can and should do this service yourself. All you're really looking at is:

-Transmission Fluid - $60.00 (No need to change the filter)
-Oil & Filter
-Drivebelt (If it's worn and glazed, best to replace it now rather than have it break while on vacation or on the way to an important meeting)
-4x4 has non-serviceable front wheel bearings so you don't need to worry about that.
-At 60,000 miles, brakes are likely worn and may need to be serviced.
-Replace fuel filter
-Replace air filter
-Replace PCV valve (dealer will do this for free +/- 500 miles from the 60,000 mile service.

The important ones are the transmisison fluid, oil, air and fuel filters. You should also check the coolant and consider replacing it. You're looking at around $100.00 parts for everything you need.

I agree with AJ.

I have two friends with F150 4X4's. One of them just did a complete tune up for the first time at 180,000 miles. Runs like a top now. The other has 67K on it, still runs prefect. He just changes the oil every 3K and does air filter and fuel filter when it needs.

I wouldn't recommend those service intervals, but make sure they are actually going to do work for the money and not just inpect things.
