For all you F1 fans....

The season will be starting soon. Great site to get up to speed, pun intended.

I'm beyond psyched about the season getting ready to start, but beyond stressed that there is no official word from Speed Channel about broadcast rights.

I've watched in great anticipation as the new cars have been tested, rules changes were carved in stone, and predictions have been made. I think this season will see some good racing. I can't wait to have the speakers pumped up hearing 18,000 revs again!

The Ferraris still have the package, but it looks like both Williams and McLaren have made up some ground. If the Schu gets his next title it's fine with me..... but I want him to work much harder for it this year.

MS, JPM, and Kimi are my top picks. JPM and Kimi both impress me with their driving. It looks like some of the new talent will be interesting as well......

As for the site.... I thought Daily was going away. Apparently they saved it somehow. Great site for up to date info, and great race summaries as well. For some reason the forums on Daily tend to get hosed up by spammers and trolls though.....I don't know what the problem is there.

For a great F1 Forum, go to F1 Directory This site is the opposite of daily.... very little information and news, but they have a great forum. They also have forums for just about any kind of car racing.

Until I see something official about the contract for viewing I'm gonna be nervous. As soon as it's carved in stone I'm gonna be

0 - 100mph - 0 7 Seconds flat Any questions?

Dont worry, Speed is in 'final negotiations' for the F1 broadcasts. Bernie Ecclestone won't let the US not get live or at least same day broadcasts. As for the title, might as well go ahead and give it to Schumi again. Looks like the F2003 will be much stronger once they run it, even though they will start the season on the F2002. Ground has been made up, but Ferrari is still too strong it appears. Williams and McLaren only hope is bad fortune for Schumi(injury or a sudden retirement).

I hope they (Speed) don't do to you F1 fans what they did to us WRC fans!

Frank,

I agree they will still have the best car, but the Williams broke track records as well. The McLarens are improved quite a bit also. This combined with the new qualifying rules will make it a harder year for MS. With the new rules I wouldn't be surprised to see teams working together against the dominant cars.... Ferrari.

Keep in mind that with the new rules it will be harder for the top runners to get poles, so they now have to fight through the pack. That and fuel strategies should mix things up some. It looks like the Aussie race may end up being in the wet stuff, so that's a gimme for MS.

As for the contract it has been announced they did get a three year contract on ALL races. All will be shown live. On top of that they will also beging airing previous seasons, starting 10 years back. So this year we will see the 1993 season and it will progress yearly.

Jay911,

Check out the forums at SpeedTV. The president of Speed Channel posts there, and seems very responsive to viewer input. Looking for F1 stuff I found a post concerning their decisions on WRC coverage. The pres of Speed is a poster with the username Speed1, and it is the man Briatore himself.

Yup, I know. Have you checked their World Rally forum? Basically he's said that the reason they cut WRC coverage back from 4 hours weekly to 2, and put it not only days after the rally's actually over, but up against two of the highest rated primetime shows in existence, is to gain viewership.

Believe that if you want... I can see how someone can think that'll work - in terms of attracting viewers, if you put it in a large block all at once, in prime time, yeah, some people might see it. But the new, reduced content and in a killing timeslot, is not the best solution either.

*shrug* I'll still watch the stuff, and get a lot of it from the Internet. But I think the final outcome will be that it will go back to the way it was, or they will end their coverage completely.

Personally, while I am impressed by someone of Speed1's position bothering to talk to his station's viewers, I'm not all that impressed with the response to people who don't agree with his opinion: "Good-bye".

If Ferrari is going to win again, they better get a big lead early. With the new rules going into affect midseason (no traction control, car to pit telemetry, etc..), Ferrrari's technical edvantage is gone - BUT they still have almost twice the budget as the next team.
