I'm suprised that it took this long. Any mention of it becoming a 'class action' suit? Seems like a bunch of cities/states have been interested in going after Ford's 'deeper' pockets.

Yeah, what happened is sad but I would think that any car that gets rear-ended that hard has the potential to go up in flames. Does anyone remember the Ford Pinto, that thig would blow up if you tapped the rear bumber while parallel parking !

I may sound overly sympathetic for Ford, as they provide me with my pay checks, However, in driving down the road on my way home from here several weeks ago, I paid special attention to every vehicle that I approached from the rear. If my calculations are correct, in over 50% of the ones I observed, the gas tank was clearly visible under the bumper.
Tell me how and why Ford is being singled out on this.
I'll tell you what I believe. I believe that there are too many bleeding heart liberal attorneys in this country that will take absoultely any case to court. Hell, if they can get someone $1000.00 they will get 80% if it.
I admit the Pinto was a disasterful example. Which leads me to believe that most of these blood sucking attorneys who chase issues like this, can say, "Hey we sued Ford over the Pinto, and won, therfore they are easy game, so lets get them again".
It sickens me that this country has come to this.
Another spike in the coffin of the big 3 and that Auto Worker.

The real sad fact is regardless how much people sue Ford or how much money Fords insurances pays out that neither Ford nor their insurance actually lose much money if any at all. It is us, the ones who buy Fords and us who have insurance, and sometimes the employees as well that pay out those BIG awards to the attorneys and their moron clients.

If you don’t think that Ford and insurance companies recoup that lose from us your in a another world.

It amazes me when you see some people think its funny or great how a big business or insurance company gets sued like “ya go get em” and not have enough brains to realize they just got screwed themselves. So Ford will lose some money up front but just add another $10 - $40 per vehicle to recoup the money back and/or instead of Ford employees getting maybe a 5.5% pay raise they will get a 4.9% pay raise just how things work.

The ONLY one that wins regardless is the lawyer.

Maybe the lawyers should also sue the driver that the policeman pulled over.
If that driver had not been doing whatever he/she was pulled over for, the cop would not have been parked on the side of the road.

And also sue the manufactor of the gas in the cops car.......
did I leave anything out that the friggin lawyer can go after?

Dont forget the highway dept. for not providing a safe & adequate break down lane and the police for mandating the unsafe procedure for pulling someone over on a violation.

For the record, the cop was setting up for speed enforcement in a construction zone and didn't have anybody pulled over at the time. The shoulder he parked on was very wide, nearly a lane and a half. The jerk that hit him was drunk (somewhere over twice the legal limit, if I remember correctly) and was speeding. Reports vary about how fast he was driving but it was between 55 mph and 70 mph.

How many of our cars or trucks are built to withstand a direct hit to our fuel tanks at those speeds? Maybe Ford should look into fuel cell technology for any of their vehicles used for commercial or public service (police, fire, ambulance, taxi, etc.).

Ok, so a drunk hit him, now we have more people the lawyer can sue:

1. The beer maker (i.e. bud, coors of who ever, if not sure sue them all).

2. The place the guy bought the beer.

3. The person that sold him the beer.

4. The car manufacture of the car that hit the cop car.

5. The brake pad manufacture of the pads on the car that hit the cop.

6. The tire manufacture of the tires on the guys car that hit the cop.

7. The window manufacture of the window in the guys car that hit the cop (maybe he could not see well out of it).

8. The guy's mother who hit the cop for giving birth to the moron.

9. The guy's father who made it possible for birth of the moron.

10. Chevy, because they make the uglyest *****ing trucks I have ever seen...

Damn, I need to be a lawyer it is easy coming up with a nice list of people to make me rich...

I don't think that it really matters what kind of vehicle it is. If one car hits parked car doing 55-70mph there is going to be a big mess and if hit from the rear end the car will probably blow up. It is all about physics and the force that is acting on the cars. I bet if they done a done a test under the same conditions with different models of cars they would all probably the same thing. Don't do it with just Fords, but Chevys, toyotas, at least one car from every manufacturer. I bet that almost every one of them would do the same thing. Now if it blew up at a much lower speed, say at 20mph or less and blew up, then I would say that there is something wrong.

Also, what kind of car hit the Police Car?
The bigger the car that hit him, the more likely it would blow up.
I don't think that they could sue just Ford over this. They would have to do the test mentioned and sue all manufacturers. Remember, no car is guaranteed to not blow up on impact. But then again, some people just like to sue somebody so they can get rich.

Lawyer’s motto:

When in doubt just sue somebody. Worry about the details tomorrow…
