Something funny that I noticed.
Something funny that I noticed.
Okay, me and all of my neighbors have Ford trucks. The weather recently got very snowy, and none of us would have any problem getting out in the snow, but for some reason, for like 3 days, none of us have gone anywhere.

Sorry, this just struck me as odd, as we have these trucks that we paid a lot of money for, and then when it does get bad outside, we all just say "whatever" and stay home. Who knows, maybe they all have XBOXs too.

I'll tell you what strikes me as odd...
Your neighbors driveway is black!
I haven't been able to see my blacktop in months!!
Underneath about 4 inches of frozen ice and packed snow, there lies my black driveway, but I don't expect to see black until spring.
I'm slightly preoccupied with a blacktop driveway, I drive around, and when I see someone with a nice clean black driveway, it sticks out and I notice it right away, and I always think to myself:
"look at that there sumbich, why that there sumbich has a nice clean driveway, and it's all black" (you know when the driveway is perfectly clean and black, and on either side of it there's 6 feet of snow?)
I hate people who take the time to chisel and scrape their driveway for hours on end. Yup, there's always some goody-2-shoes neighbor who has to maintain their driveway cleanliness to a standard far above everyone else.
Those people make me sick! Them and their "Holier-than-thou" driveway appearance.
Judging from my informal, unscientific research, I conclude that these chiselers and scrapers comprise about 5% of the population. These are the same people who have perfectly manicured lawns, finely trimmed hedges, and just go out of their way to make the rest of us look bad.
Damn you people!

You know, you are right, I don't understand it either, it isn't like he cleared off the driveway to take his truck anywhere! Kind of does seem pointless to me.
Thanks for pointing this out, Habibi!
I would go with the percentage of these people being substantially higher in a lot of places, such as Tennessee. I have a neighbor there, who
a.)Mows his lawn every night (You read right, I said NIGHT) about 2 hours after it starts getting dark. The same places in his yard, too, and he has 5 acres, but I still can't sit on the porch and use my cell phone minutes when they are free because my neighbor has to mow his dirt.
b.)Apparently only has one license plate, and they use it for 4 different vehicles. I swear, they have a Mustang, and they went to the gas station and filled it up, then drove off without paying for the gas. They came home, jack the car up, took the wheels off and simply transferred the tag to their van. The police show up, and they say "Look, we don;'t even have tags!" The police leave, and it is still like that, and apparently it is all good.
c.)Shovels his driveway (and it is a gravel driveway) down to the dirt, then respreads the gravels when the snow melts. Every morning. He doesn't work, or anyone at his house. He had no visitors. He goes no where all day long. I swear, I have not seen the guy leave home since September.
d.)Hates fishing
These people really chap my hiney, too, Habibi, and as soon as my neighbor pays me my ten dollars for shoveling his driveway, I will ask him what is up with the shoveling. I will post back and let you know.

Don't feel bad about not driving your truck in the bad weather. I see on the weather channel and the news where people are out driving in snow and their vehicles get in an accident. To me it wouldn't be worth it to get the Truck cracked up because some idiot in a little rice box throws on his brakes and this 5,000 LB truck can't stop on a dime. Thousands of dollars in damage for what? A days wages or even less, beer run to the local market, heh.
OK maybe I'm being extreme but it's to make a point. When I lived up north I made it a point of pride to drive in that crap and thought it was all macho to be the one guy out driving in it until one day I did a 720 coming down a little hill that was iced, heh.
Here in AZ when it rains the dry washes fillup and idiots try to drive thru them with the water running. Next thing you know the TV helicopter is showing the car driving /floating down the stream, heh.
Anyways - there's no place like home!

I have to get in on this - being in Buffalo (proof that Hell HAS frozen over!), I deal with this daily - for 8 months out of 12!
Right now, as I type this we have travel advisory's for 5 counties including mine. Visibility is zero - wind chills in the double digit MINUS range & snow coming down & whipping around causing white outs.
It never ceases to amaze me when I see the absolute stupidity of "experienced" snow drivers here. Don't forget - I grew up in NYC - we hardly ever got snow or at least hardly more than 1-2" & I AM a better snow driver than natives here.
People here will 1) drive w/o clearing their vehicles windows off - including the windshield! 2) drive w/o their lights on - a state law when wipers are needed 3) tailgate me so closely I usually have no idea they're back there unless I happen to get a foot or 2 ahead of them 4) forget to use signals - it's like they're on a "secret mission" & don't want others to know where they are going! 5) pull out in front of me so I have to swerve or hit my brakes while there is NOBODY coming behind me & they could have pulled out right after I went by!
I am going to have the following sign made up:
"This ain't no Bills game - NO TAILGATING ALLOWED! If you hit me I WILL sue. This has been a PSA - Public Stupidity Alert"
Hopefully this will work - if not, I at least warned them that I will sue!
Sorry for ranting - I have to go clear 5" of snow off the WHOLE truck so I can try to get to work. Wish me luck.

Yes, this is funny. I just pressure washed my driveway with shorts on yesterday. I can see my driveway just fine now. tomorrow is my 30th birthday, we are having a party Saturday. It will be 78 degrees. If you guys can pry your frozen hands off of those XBOX's, your welcome to come down to enjoy the weather and an open bar at my house.
I wish it would be 78! 5 more months maybe. Today it will be -32F with the windchill, this past week it has gone to -42F.

You can have a nice clear drive way, its simple. Go out and buy that Craftsmen 1.2million btu flame thrower. It works awesome, hell it works so well that when you get done flaming down your drive way throw a few hamburgers and hotdogs down on the steral blacktop and within a few minutes your feeding the hungry you built up flaming the drive way.
A few pointers, insure your truck is no where close, second if you have some neighborhood cats you just hate, set a bowl out to feed them approx. 2 minutes prior to flaming down the driveway. No more cat prints on the truck, hell of a trick...

LOL, all you guys crack me up
I drove from Kingston to Toronto at 5am this morning (165 miles), and the weather was awful.
Fresh snow and black ice everywhere, and the highway had'nt been sanded, salted or plowed yet. It was quite a nerve racking experience.
I would'nt be exagerating if I said there was a vwhicle in the ditch at every mile interval; It was that bad out.
It always amazes me at how poorly people drive when the weather is bad. I was in 4-hi, and doing about 50 MPH the entire way, no cruise on, and no radio, I really like to hear the truck and feel the throttle as much as possible in bad confitions.
Even as careful and prudent as I was driving, I still almost spun out a couple of times.
At one point, an 18 wheeler lost control, and spun out about half a mile ahead of us. He did a complete 180, and ended up landing in the grassy area between east and west lanes, the truck fell over on it's side, and was facing the oppositie direction when he came to a stop.
Everything happened so fast, and at one point, I thought we were going to collide with him. I slowed down to about 25 MPH, and when I hit the spot where he spun out, I almost ended up in the ditch too.
What surprised me though was that inasmuch as I was driving a very capable vehicle, I still had to slow down and drive carefully in order to maintain traction and control.
All the people in their Honda, and other cars, are flying by me like I'm standing still. It's almost as if people don't have any regard for the road conditions, or they just don't care.
Maybe that explains all the cars that were littering the side of the highway this morning.

I know what your talking about with some people and how they "really" dont know how to drive durning winter and icy conditions. You see the little death coffins flying by like its summer, you see absolute idiots doing 60mph plus because for some reason they "think" they have better traction because they are in a 4X4 (when I say idiots it's not meant for everyone that owns a 4X4) just the ones that have major brain cramps and "think" they have better traction on ice. I guess they are not smart enought to realize that once your going its all "equal" be it small car, 2wd truck, or 4X4 all the same on ice with one exception the heavier the auto the more it will lose traction on ice, the farther it will slide and most likely the more damage they will get.
I remember once seeing a 18 wheeler hauling @@s doing at least 60mph when it was icy out I seen him coming and got WAY over because I knew once that boy hit some ice and took off he was going to take out and most likely kill alot of people. I don't mind driving in it if I have to. I don't mind someone tailgating me either. While they are back there I dream of all the things I am going to buy and do with their money if and/or when I SLAM my brakes on...

Even when I do drive in bad conditions, I always use caution. I was driving down the interstate one day in about 4 inches of snow and ice and some dummy in a 2wd chevy came by me doing almost 70, and he had two of the long propane cylinders in the back of his truck! He turned sideways, and about 5 minutes later, he had slowed to about 15 mph!
Oh, Cowlady, I called Buffalo, and asked them what was up with their driving. This is what they said, responding to your complaints.
1)Visibility is 0, why worry about cleaning off the windshield, you couldn't see if you did!
2)If the windshield is not clear, then they don't need lights, they are just being inconsiderate of other drivers, but you know how that goes anywhere in the country!
3)They figure a Fod truck like yours should go, and they know that you will have the best path, even if it always is not on the road.
4)Signals are clues that give away your driving strategy! How do you want them to get there first if everyone knows their fastest route?
5)They hung up on me before I even got to ask them about this one. They sure are rude up there!
01 XLT Sport, watch the driveway bbq, my relatives in Louisiana tried that, it's what started that whole e. coli thing.
hapynzap, I heard it is nice out there in Arizona. I graduated high school with the Cardinals running back Thomas Jones, I have known him since kindergarten. He hasn't proven himself in the NFL, but I think he will, he just needs to adjust. It is a lot different than college football!
