Sacramento is at $1.94 for regular. But it will probably be higher by lunch time.

USA Today's Feb 14th edition had an interesting article about the price of fuel and how it has elevated over the past year...

They mentioned that prices are topping out around $2.29/gallon of 87 Octane in San Fran and that we, as consumers, should expect to see a nationwide average of over $2/gal by late spring.

Not good news for those of us with the V8s and better...

This is no joke! I am experiencing this price increase first hand and it hurts! Oakland, still has the lowest prices in the Bay Area, but San Francisco is topping out at like $2.39 for 91 octane!
I guess oil companies use any excuse they can think of to gouge (sp?)! It makes me mad. My retaliation is that I only drive out of necessity, now. no more cruises or weekend trips for a while.

It is ashame that we, as Americans, are so dependant upon petroleum. They've, literally, got us by the *****.

I'll say that the gas prices have been going up just since this thread was started. I just filled my truck up, for the second time this week. Well, thursday, I put $15.00 in it. Today, I had a quarter of a tank in the truck, and it took $32.00 to fill it completely up. That is $47.00 in three days and that will not last me until Thursday, and if I am luck maybe Friday, because I use at least a quarter of a tank daily just going to work. Right now for the plus it was like $1.73 and the lady said it was going up again soon. This totally sucks. Can't even save money for mods because it takes so much money to keep gas in my truck.

And you are right, RockPick. they know that we need it and that if we want to go anywhere, we have to buy it. Price gouging is all it is. Government needs to step in and put a cap on how much they can charge.

Prices here actually fell slightly over the weekend. Weird huh?

Started the weekend at $1.61 and they were $1.57 this morning at the same station.

the reason for gas price increase

Don't you people understand what is going on here? The government is in on this. They need money to fund the impending war with Iraq. What better way to get it:Gas taxes.A little bird told me (ok it was a person) that we can expect to pay between 4 & 5 dollars a gallon by mid summer.I don't know how true it is but it scares the crud out of me.Lets see here :1 fillup (from a quarter tank) is 20 gallons at $5/gallon. That's 100 bucks a fill up and I fill up once a week.4 fillups a month= 400 dollars a month in gas. That is almost what my payment on this gas hog is......Jeeze......

Angry

$1.83 for unleaded here in L.A. Prices went up about $0.20 since the beginning of this month. I think the oil companies are price gouging us.

I guess we can complain all we want, but the only people that can do anything about the gouging arn't doing anything. We need gas to drive to work, go to the grocery store, go to school, we are dependant on this form of fuel. No one wants to do anything about it. We keep forking over the money almost without any thought. Now that prices are getting a little higher, it hurts a little more. But still we do it. It's like smoking, we know it's bad for our health and will probably kill us but we keep going, saying one more pack won't hurt. Things are not likely to change unless people (we) make it change. A little lesson I learned from H.D. Thoreau. I guess I'm just fuming (no pun intended) tonight. Sorry if I seem moody!

Gooid night all.

The Shell at my corner is $1.79/1.89/1.99 gallon. Seems like it's up every time I drive by the station.

I posted a few days ago about prices, seemingly, falling slightly around my area...

I confirmed that this morning. Yesterday, same station was $1.57... this morning it was $1.54. Weird.
