question about propane
question about propane
Is there a temperature that is too low to safely store propane. We are going to have a hard freeze (nothing to you northern guys) of about 27 degrees, and I need to move the plants in the garage with some heat lamps. I don't want the propane in the same place (due to the fire explosion hazard) but I'm not sure if it's safe to store out in my backyard. The tank itself only warns against too high a temperature.
I'm sure some of you have tanks attached to grills, you see any danger in a propane tank being exposed to below freezing temperatures?

propane
We've already had temps here below 20 degrees and
my two tanks have been fine. I've also got one connected
to a grill and it's been out in less than that. I don't see
how it could be a problem. There are people everywhere
around here with houses that burn propane throughout
the winter with no problems. I think excessive heat is
the only concern. I mean, the places that sell the stuff
have there bulk tanks sittin' outside in the elements, so
I seriously doubt cold weather affects it.
We've got a shot at single digit wind chill here in MS
tonight. It actually frickin' snowed for about an hour
last night. I thought I was dreaming.

Thanks, I just didn't know. This is a propane tank for a gas grill, not a heater. You make a good point about the places that sell propane, don't know why I didn't realize that. I just left Home Depot a few hours ago, and then have them locked inside steel containers that sit outside rain, snow, or shine.........

All this week in the morning it has been between -10 to -8 degrees, during the day approx. 15 - 20 degrees.
I need to drive my truck more, burn some more oil and get this global warming moving along....
Like most these other guys said, propane tank for you grill will be fine. I actually grilled outside last saturday and it was 3 degrees, hambugers sure smelled GOOD..
