the thing that pi$$es me off most about this is that these guys are still using petroleum products. Even a Honda Insight Hybrid still uses gas, just not as much. Or how about those with oil fired furnaces or the fact that they use petroleum derived plastics.
Maybe they dont use as much, but jeez they are still using it.

J-150, you are absolutely right. There have been several threads here dealing with this and like others have pointed out, oil is a big part of our life. Just about anything that you can think of, relies on the use of oil. The reason she is doing this probably has nothing to do with oil at all. I have been hearing that she drove a SUV before she started all of this. She probably didn't like the gas mileage that she got with it so she decided that she would try and do something about it. If she wants to be concerned about vehicles that pollute the air, she should look at big diesels and maybe airplanes. Remember, this lady is filthy rich and can pretty much do anything she wants. Thats just my opinion on this.

The other factor is how you use your SUV. I don't want to make judgements on how people live but she is because someone drives an SUV. Take these two senarios.
Person one drives an SUV an lives in a 2000 square foot house 2 miles from work.
Person two drives a fuel effecient car but gets out of the rat race and builds a 4000 square foot house in the middle of nowwhere and has a 2 hour commute into the city. After work they have to drive miles to do anything ie kids for sport or to get groceries etc.
Person one turns out all his light and has a setback thermostat on his house.
Person two has no money worries and is worried about security so lights are on all the time. Oh and we don't want to be uncomfortable so the heat is up all the time and room temperature is believed to be 75 degrees.

Im with Paulv it takes planes, trains, trucks and ships to get out goods around the country and the world, so if we cut back on oil and limit all the above mentioned transportation vehicles how does she plan to get any goods delivered to stores???

Well, she don't plan on it. Reason being is she has no logically thought process. Her only means of knowing anything is what she is "lead" to beleive. These enviromental wackos only go on what they are told or read or hear on tv. They don't actually have any real idea of what they are doing except that it makes "them" look good to other people that have no brains and can not comprehend reality.
They are going after SUV'S like people went after smokers. They do so because the numbers are low. There are not "alot" of people that own SUV'S compared to those that own small cars, just like there are not "alot" of smokers. Going after the minority is always an easy target since the majority usally dont have a clue about "why" or if there is a good "logical" reason to do so.
Take smokers for example, they say "they kill people" and it "kills kids". Well there may be "some" truth to that but I would argue that more people and more kids are killed everyday due to drunk drivers, or people who drink then go home and beat their spouse or kids etc. The reason they don't try to ban beer, drinks etc is because the majority of people use it. There are ALOT of people that can handle their beer, etc, who don't beat their spouse, kids etc, but my point being numbers are numbers and thus if you "REALLY" wanted to go after something to reduce death then beer is the one.
Same goes for this enviromental BS about SUV'S they did not think it completely through logically. They don't want to think it through logically because its NOT about the SUV'S its about them, the envirmental wackos gaining power over people and having things there way. They, the enviromental wackos, just like most liberals seem to think they know what is better for the majority of the people. They think most people are just completely stupid with no common sence or logic. They feel they are better equiped to decide for us what is in our best interest.
These same envirmental wackos whining about SUV'S drive them as well, and with their big 10,000sqft houses, 21 car garages waste more energy (oil) then 10 family's do who own SUV'S and put 15,000 miles a year on them, yet it is OK for them because they are smart and the 10 family's who own the SUV'S are stupid in their mind.
Until enviromental wackos lead by EXAMPLE not many people will listen or even try to comprehend what they are trying to say or do. Remember it is proper to "Do as I DO" not "Do as I say".

It seems that these environmental wackos as 01 XLT Sport calls them are also going after other vehicles. I just saw a news report on one of the news channels where they have now started going after snowmobiles. They were especially going after using them in major parks in the north. I have never ridden a snowmobile, but what is the exhaust like? I bet it is nowhere as bad as even those little hybrid cars they want everyone to drive. They are now trying to make all the snowmobiles run off of some other gas that is supposed to burn less than regular gas and oil. Next thing you know, they are going to target boats and Jet Skis for polluting the waters and try and eliminate them. These people are just plain ignorant and stupid!

They are going after snowmobilers more for noise pollution than anything else, especially in Yellowstone. The air pollution is a sidenote. It is true that the 4 cycle engines burn cleaner the 2 stroke oil/gas mix engines. Everybody knows that the air is worse in the summer becasue of all the diesel tour buses that sit at every pulloff and idle for hours none is even trying to argue against this. However, they are starting to limit the number of 2 cycle snowmobiles allowed in a day.
The ones that are fighting the most for this are the biologists. They are claiming the noise is causing stress in the animals and interupting there natural habitat.
