150 vs 250 bed difference?

What are the differences in beds between 150 and 250? Ae they taller, wider, diff shape? Are the tailgates the same? Wasn;t the '99's the same? Any pictures to see the diff?

Thanks

The 150 short beds are 6'6" and the 250/350 are 6'9" in length. Long beds are both 8'

As far as depth and width, I am not positive on the differences.

height/width.

Rumor has it the same tailgate is used for the F150 and SuperDuty, but I've not verified this myself.. There is a little bit of taper on the SuperDuty bed, so it might be possible for it to be slightly wider.

Mach 1,

I am particularly interested in the underside of the bed rails, as this is where an actuator bracket mounts, specifically about 2 feet in from the tailgate, (just after the wheel wells). It seems the bed rail width and angles are different. I believe there are anly 2 diff. width tailgates, you have one of each.

Thanks,

Tailgates are the same. I work in the salvage business and all we deal in are trucks. Tailgates for F-150 and SD have the same interchange number. It's about the only thing they have in common except for the 5.4 of course. If anyone has any questions about interchange, feel free to email me.

I believe the bed sizes are different. I made a flush bed cover from aluminum extrusions and a fiberglass/foam-laminated panel for each, my old 150 and my SD, and the bed sizes were different. The tailgate for the SD is around 2" wider as is the box. The F-150 box is tapered from front to rear about an inch and The length is different also. The SD is around 3" longer. I'm pretty sure this is correct, from my recollection.

Bob- did you make the bed covers...If so I am interested...please give me some ideas...

I compared(but did not measure) the 250 to the 150..It looks as if they are the same...the bumpers looked the same and the tailights looked the same...

Omahaknight could tell us for sure because he works at a salvage place with the cross reference book-tells all...I am interested in the bumper and tailights...you out there Omaha???

Mach1,
Sorry I haven’t posted sooner, I've been away from my computer. Yes I made my cover, I’ll try to get some photos of it. It is made from a .060 fiberglass skin with a 19mm eps foam core and a .012 aluminum bottom skin. Then I got an h extrusion that runs around the perimeter and rest on the bed rails. The cap is hardly noticeable until you get right up on the truck. I haven’t got around to putting shocks and a front hinge system yet but I don’t open the tailgate much so is hasn’t been much of a problem.

I looked at the body builder’s layout book on the box diff.
SD
Top of box width front = 63.9
Top of box width rear = 63.6
Floor width rear = 60.6
Length inside = 82.4

150
Top of box width front = 65.2
Top of box width rear = 61.2
Floor of box width rear = 60.3
Length inside = 78.8

The top of box width rear would be where the differences in the tailgate dimensions come into play. The floor width is not really a true number when checking the tailgate width, there is a great deal of sheet metal support on the SD that is not on the 150 and that adds to the opening bulk.

Thank you for the information. I'll investigate further any differences in the bed rail geometry.

Bob, you must be good to make your own bed cover from scratch!!!

You can get the extruded aluminum locally?? Did you hand lay the fiberglas??? How much into it???

I have to admit that I have an advantage working for a company that has its own; extrusion, sheet metal, panel lamination, rotocast, vacuum molding, rtm and chop fiberglass, and furniture plants.
The glass is .060 sheet that we purchase for the outer skins or our motorhomes and the foam and aluminum we use in multiple areas. I had the glass, foam, and alum laminated with reactive hot melt adhesive and nip rolled. The cover assembled weighs maybe 35lb. I never really weighed it since it’s not really an issue. I can’t really say how much I have into the cover but I will tell you it is less than the price of a bug shield.
