My '01 SD hubs say lock and unlock. Don't know why they relabeled that part. As for the diesel issue, read this http://www.bonforums.com/powertrain/...erstroke60.htm

FALLSCREW,

It says Auto and Lock Then the truck has electronic/Vaccum engage 4x4 with a turn dial.

If it has Lock and Unlock This is the old style Manual lock with the floor shifter to engage 4x4.

If you have the turn dial and for some reason you have trouble with vaccum you will still be able to manually lock the hubs.

OK, I am going to rant here....

ralderman asked if the 5.4 is enough, and there were some good answers from some folks with that engine, but once again, some high and mighty PSD'er gets on here and slams the V8 simply on the basis of how great his motor is. You know what? If I had the money, I'd have a PSD, but guess what? It was a ~$5000 option when I got my truck.. I did not, and do not have that kind of money. Therefore, I got my SuperDuty with a V8..

Point is, it seems like the PSD crowd is all too quick to run their mouths about how great their diesel is.. Great, just don't rub my nose in the fact that I don't have the money you do, ok?

BTW I LOVE my truck, even without the mighty PSD...

What thread are you reading. I didnt see one PSD owner bash the 5.4. Everyone said its a good engine if it fits your needs. You come on here like everyone told the guy he was a tard and should be burned at the stake for even looking at the 5.4. Every single answer was supportive of that engine and positive in every way then we get to yours. Your pissed you couldnt get a 7.3? Sorry. Dont make the rest of us read your sob story.

calm down

Swofford: Huh? You misunderstood my post. My point was that just because a truck has the biggest engine in the lineup, doesn't mean it's a better truck. As you said, it's all in what you use it for. I simply meant that the PSD is not worth the price to me, at least for my use.

Rereading my post, I will admit that I didn't word that one too well.. My mistake, and I apologize. But I stand behind my statement that 3 of the 4 PSD drivers I have met stuck their noses in the air to the point of not even discussing trucks on the basis that mine used gasoline. That's it. Just a personal observation, you're free to disagree if you choose.

To everyone else, I apologize if I offend, not my intention.

Swofford - Obviously you weren't paying much attention.. "Mach 1 : 3 of 4 Super Duties have 7.3 Diesels...Plenty of power and still get 18-20mpg..." If that doesn't sound like a PSD guy I'll be damned!

IKE - I agree with you.. PSD is nice, but not practical for everyone.

And yes.. The 5.4L is good enough in a SuperDuty!!

Sounds more like a guy quoting a statistic. WOW should be banned for that.

IKE- If I mistunderstood your post I apologize. Just read like you thought everyone in this thread had nailed the 5.4 to the floor, when everyone is pretty saupportive of it if it meets your needs.

Yes, I was the 1 who stated 3 out of 4 are PSD...THIS is a fact...So a couple of other people think that this truck should have some power and fuel mileage to it!!!!Like FORD, since they are the ones who are doin it...

The other 25% are divided between the v10 and the 5.4...

I owned a 5.4 f150 and it would not tow the stuff that I do now...

The 5.4 is a good engine, does it have the power to pull???

Does it have what it takes to be in a SUPER DUTY???

I have a bobcat on a trailer right now that I will tow tomorrow...about 10k lbs. through the hill country...5.4 wont do it very well and I will pay for it in fuel mileage..

Am I stuck up on diesels???Yes, I have a very nice truck that suites my needs, the 5.4 wont do for me, but it does for you..

So I state facts that Ford established and printed fuel economy figures and Now I am a stuck up diesel freak...Ford trucks are the best.. fact...I own one of the best trucks and its a Ford with an international diesel...

The 5.4 L isn't rated for towing 10,000 lbs it's only rated for about 8,000 lbs & that's max you won't tow that much in the mountains

Will this subject ever die??!!

OK, I use my superduty for work. The work I use it for, an F150 would not handle. Also, I prefer having a solid axle and a manual tranny. So what do ya get? The truck you need. I need to haul equipment, supplies, and workers every day and often in offroad conditions because of the amount of new construction we do. I occasionally need to haul over a ton or so. I use the truck and I do it with the 5.4.

What needs to be understood is that not every work truck tows 10000lbs. In fact, quite a few work trucks do not tow much at all. In comes the 5.4. It serves a vital role in an area where the V10 and PSD are not needed but the weight capacity, durability and overall toughness IS needed.

Now what we need to do is end this debate and get to a better one. I've got it. Are shovie and dodge needed? The answer is yes. Otherwise, who else would we Ford owners have to kick around?

It sounds like you got the truck that best suites your work/requirement style....

I have the truck that best suites my work and still has plenty of power and fuel mileage(20+mpg)....

WE (PSD'S) are not snubbing our noses at anyone...I am just proud of my truck and very pleased with it...I think its great and never relalized you could have this much power and the fuel economy as well!!!!

I had a 5.4 in a 150 and it got 16mpg and it had problems towing a car on a 16' trailer in the hill country...

As I tell everyone,,buy what suits your demand...

Ford is the best truck out there...NOT bragg just fact...lets enjoy..

I say the 5.4 works great for what it would be used for and every one can't go out and get the PSD in the Super Duty truck and with the right gears the 5.4 will do a very good job towing a load.
