Thumbs up Need some new springs!!!!

Ok... I have lifted the front of my 2000 4x4 CC SuperDuty around 3" with a Jack-It leveling kit. I love the look.. but, I have a problem... The spring packs from Jack-It are squeaking and driving me nuts!!!!! I've tried WD 40, Heavy grease; the squeak is still there! Honestly, it sounds like bedsprings in a cheap hotel room!

At any rate, I have had it with these, as anything that helps is only temporary, so I am going to bite the bullet and want to replace the springs. I want to go 4 inches, and I want an entire bolt-in set of springs. Any brands anyone can recommend, sources, etc??

Oh yeah, I have the 5.4, 4x4, Crew Cab... Have I left anything out?

IKE,

Maybe try National Spring Co. They don't have a web site but I saw them in Four Wheller Magazine.
Their Phone # is (619)-441-1901
Ther're out of El Cajon, California.

Hope this helps,

Phil

Thumbs up Got new springs!

Took your advice phildacf150 and SDV10, installed replacement springs from National Spring. Can't say enough good about them, they don't squeak, they are of high quality; Best experience I've had with aftermarket parts.

Thanks for the suggestion!!!!!

Thumbs up

Ike,

Glad to see everything went OK with National Springs. How big did you go, and what kind of parts did they sell you? If possible, post some Pic's.

Forgot to check on this thread

Sorry guys, I dropped the ball and forgot to check on this thread. I apologize for not responding in a timelier manner.

It's been a few weeks now, and I love these springs! No squeaks, they look great, and no grease stains on the end of the spring pack.

I went with 3.5 inches, just enough to run 35's. I'd like to go bigger, but didn't want to get into problems with driveline angles, dropped pitman arm, etc. Everything works well, although I did have to add a shim to the carrier bearing to eliminate a shudder on take off. It's a Ford part, and if anyone's interested, I can provide a part #.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics, although I wish I had!

For a pic of the finished product, go here: http://www.ikemeyer.com/inlink/images/250.jpg

Let me amend my last statement....

11 months and 11,000 miles of 99% on road, and 1% MILD offroading, my National Springs have sagged over 1". I now have problems ON THE STREET with my 35's rubbing. I contacted National Spring about this, spoke to a supervisor who said they MAY be able to send me an add-a-leaf to add to the pack, but with no guarantees that it would restore the 1" I have lost. She took my info, and stated she would call me back with a possible solution, and I NEVER HEARD FROM HER AGAIN. That was about a month ago, I have not pursuded it further (haven't had time) and have to say that it was "too little, too late" anyway. For what I paid for these springs, I expected a better quality product.

I have since seen posts stating that others, too, have been disappointed with their customer service. I post this as info, not to flame this company. Buyer beware.

IKE,

Sorry to hear that the springs are giving you problems. I had heard that this was a good company. I would hope that an Add-A-Leaf would fix the problem. Let me know how it turns out.

phildacf150: They told me that they could send the add-a-leaf, no problem there, but they were unsure as to whether that would compensate for the sag.

Maybe I'll just go with a hanger kit and go higher! Bigger is good, isn't it?

ON EDIT: Always good to see someone from St. Louis, and with a 5.4 at that!

The hanger drop kit is a good kit, doesn't effect present ride quality...

Hey if you end up needing another set of springs, contact Deaver Springs in Santa Ana, CA.

They have treated myself and many friends VERY well over the years.

Mach1 and bikenut:

Don't know which way I'll go yet, hangers for a total of close to 6 inches of lift, or new springs for 4.5 inches...

If I go with springs, I'll definately look into Deaver!

Thanks for the suggestion!

IKE,

Glad to see that they are at least going to give you an add-a-leaf. I've been thinking about a 2-4 inch lift but I don't want to have to worry about all the extra relocation of brake lines etc.

Phil,

Well, they didn't actually send it to me.. The supervisor was going to look up some info and get back to me, which she didn't... But that's ok.. I have no desire to take the spring packs apart to install an add-a-leaf..

You mentioned that you were thinking of a 2-4 inch lift, as far as that goes, I don't think you'd need to worry about any mods to your brake lines.. I originally had a Jack-It leveling kit that gave me right at 4 inches.. I had no changes to brake lines, in fact, the only thing I did aside from the springs was a track-bar relocation bracket.. there was enough slack in the lines that all I did was to bend the bracket on the frame down just a bit but I probably could have gotten by without it.

Take care out there,
