hello, had i not self destructed yrs ago i would still have my '04 250 with the 6.0 but after 5 leaking injectors i traded it out 2 yrs later.

it looks like i may be getting into a 2007 super duty 4x4 diesel. Can you guys tell me what ford did to fix that engine? I was told i could get it for 10k. isn't that a crazy low price? Although they told me in needs some work but i'll know more what it needs when i talk to my friend.

 

Hmm.... My past experience with ~$10k 10+ y/o diesels have been questionable.

Several years ago I bought a 2002 Dodge 2500 with the CTD for ~$10.5k @ 180k mi on the clock. Turbo was shot, needed new fuel pump, the intercooler was messed up, interior needed some work, transmission was shot, rear end, injectors, etc, etc. I can make a list go on and on...

I started work on it, and found it was just a waste of time. So I took a hit and sold it.

Never again will I do that again.

If I were to buy a used diesel, I would buy it with a long term warranty, with all the paper work, and have an independent reliable diesel mechanic verify it before buying it.

I found that diesel trucks especially, get abused and put through things they aren't designed for.

 

I won't touch a 6.0 with a 10 foot pole unless it's been modded to fix all the issues. This can get expensive.

 

If you want reliable but a powerhouse, get the V10.

 

I'm glad i asked these questions. You all gave me good things to think about. I don't even need a diesel but i met a gal and she already told me she's buying it for me. sounds crazy and i didn't ask her about buying me anything. She knew of someone down the road from her who was selling his truck then she told me about a few others. sorry i'm vague on this stuff but now i'm driving an ugly but drivable '93 2wd extended cab f150. from major league to the poor house.

The gas V10 is a very strong, reliable engine but it's a gas hog. A 5.4 in a Super Duty is somewhat underpowered and has the same issues as in a F-150 - phasers, etc.
