'96 F250 tire question

My new '96 F250 2 wd work truck is in need of tries. I can wait til Monday, and call up ford but would like to know if the lug nuts on this XL are standard lug or metric?

The tires on it right now are LT235 85 16s. on steel rims. A guy has a set of LT 285 75 16s on Aluminum rims that he took off his F250 after the tranny went so he bought a different truck. He told me that the lug nuts are metric. Anyway, i'm poor and looking for pt work and he's only asking 150.00 for the entire set.

will his tires fit my truck? or should I be advised not to get them. Load range is D he said. Would I need to buy some washers to make the lug nuts work if my truck takes standard lug nuts? I just need to be safe and smart but can't afford new tires.
