Trading my 06 Lariat for an 11 F250 XLT 6.2
Hey guys and gals,
So I've had my 2006 Lariat for a few years now. Been pulling a 2002 25' Komfort for about a year. The truck pulls it well but I can really feel the truck work hard while pulling. I fear the trailer is too much for long term hauling on this model of F150. I am worried I am shortening the life of this awesome truck...?
I have an opportunity to trade the Lariat for an F250 XLT with 6.2. Obvisiously the XLT wont have the creature comforts the Lariat has. My biggest concern is will the big 6.2 put me where I need to be for such a heavy trailer?
At best guess we would probably pull 8 times a year maybe 10? Quick trips are about an hour away and the longest would be to Yosemite from the Bay Area.
I absolutely love my truck and it kills me to even think of trading it, but I must do what is right by the truck.
This is my 06 Lariat: 6" RCX lift with Full Skyjacker leaf springs, 6" Bilstien Struts so no spacer up front. Firestone Ride Rite Airbags in the rear.

This is the potential trade: 2011 F250 XLT 6.2 STOCK (Camper Shell was sold)

What is your thought on this move? Am I just wasting my time with an SD gaser or is this the right direction?
I have done a good bit of searching and it seems that 50/50 hate or like the 6.2 for towing.

Roadie,
Currently, fuel consumption isn't much of a concern. This is going to be a tough decision either way. The Lariat is so nice inside... the XLT is boring to me. Although it does make for a nice canvas.
I drove the 150 this morning and can feel the trans suffering... I am beginning to think this might be good timing?!?
Thanks for the feedback Roadie! Gotta drive 7 hours to see it.

It is done! Just got back home from a very long day of driving. I am happy to report that when I finally pulled the trigger there were some features to this SD that came as a pleasant surprise!
I'll have more to update tomorrow. I am beat and need to get to sleep!
While I will miss my F150 and have no regrets.
Cheers

Thank you Roadie and Crystal,
Every now and a gain I get shocked by the realization that my F150 is no longer parked outside. However I come to my senses when I realize this move was for the best. While it will be some time before I'll be modding the SD I have already started making a list.
Took a few shots today to share with the board:
2011 Ford F250 6.2L XLT 4X4:

Kind of went pic heavy, but who doesn't pics?!? Compared to the F150 Lariat this F250 XLT is pretty boring on the surface.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I learned it had an Electronic Locking Diff and FX4 off-road package. There are a few additional extra's I wasn't aware but I'll keep the list low.
Anyhow, the dream list begins! Hopefully soon I will have our 25' Komfort hooked up and I'll get see the difference..!
Cheers and thanks for looking

That will be very difficult for me GLC....
however I will hold out as long as I can! That biggest lift I'd even consider is a 4" and I'm having a terrible time finding one that fits the gas engine. The lifts I have found I am not impressed with for what you get.
There is a 3" I have in mind but that is just a maybe at this time.
Right now I just want to enjoy the truck for what it is.

On extremely rare occasions when I visit back home there are some roads that have required additional ground clearance. Places I grew up fishing and hiking.
I know that ground clearance is achieved by larger tires, but larger tires need room so a lift becomes necessary.
Lifting this truck isn't a high priority. Just something I enjoy doing and enjoy the look of.
Curious, how much function would I be loosing by adding a 3" lift and 35" tires?
Mainly when pulling my 25' komfort...

Lifting and installing taller tires is going in the opposite direction for towing. Raising the center of gravity makes the truck less safe especially for towing. The larger tires gear the truck in the wrong direction putting more stress on the transmission and engine.
