lariat4by4,
I guess that the previous owner may had a problem with the fuel system or a problem with an old truck to put an extra filter on. It does not seem to hamper the performance of my truck so, I will leave it on for now. Bugman.

Ok you are saying someone installed it...Like we said they dont come stock from the factory with this mod....

Second--whats the purpose of putting a gas filter on a diesel???

I believe the stock Racor fuel filter is overkill to begin with...

With water seperation and solid filtration...

I dont believe the flow characteristics of a gasoline filter are the same as the diesel filters--larger, more filtration media...

Remember these fuel systems are constant recirculation and we dont want to restrict that do we????

So I am going out on a limb here and say there is probably not enough flow through a gas filter for a diesel...

Good luck with your modified fuel system....be careful there...

Bugman: have you visited the diesel board??? You should post over there about your extra fuel filter. Any type of modification that different from the norm is always of great interest on that board. Post in the upgrades section or maybe the engine section, www.ford-diesel.com

Thanks for the information. I will go on to the board to check out other mods that people have. I put 5,000 miles on my truck since purchasing it in early August. The only problem that I have with it is oil leaking around the drain bolt. The next time change the oil, I will get a washer to help prevent oil from dripping out. I keep checking the fuel filter to see if there are any leaks but, everything seems ok. If I have any problems with it, I will change it back to the way that it suppose to be. Bugman.
