Sport? SuperDuty (Try Again)
To those that responded to my previous post BC (Before the Crash) thanks. But I cannot retrieve any of this thread. So I am posting the question again.
Has anyone ever lowered a SuperDuty? What kind and size wheels and tires can we use? I am looking for at least 20" wheels, better would be 22" with some Nitto NT404's in 305/45R22.
I realize that putting slippers and a tutu on an elephant doesn't make it a ballerina. But I like the boss truck and still want a little SPORT.
Any thought or suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks in advance.
Bill.

Thanks for the reply, Mr. 10:
The wheels I have found are Colorado Customs. I'm not sure of the load capacity, but as far as the bolt pattern goes, these wheels are whittled as requested, so that won't be a problem.
The tires are Nittos, they say that the 22" tires are rated for 3015# at 50 psi. And the 20" are somewhat less at 2900# at 50 psi. I don't have a clue what load or ply rating that gives.
But I have a couple questions for you. How do you like the Borla headers and cat-back? How do they sound on the V10?
What is/are a sonnex valve and tricumulator spring???? What do they do/ do they work?
Thanks for the input.
Bill.
P.S. What kind of mileage do you get from that V10?

I've been trying to remember if I've "ever" seen a lowered Superduty truck. Seen plenty of F150's that are lowered. And I've seen lots of lifed SD's even lifted Excursion's, but not lowered. Still, that doesn't mean that someone somewhere hasn't done it
Try www.ford-diesel.com they are all superdutys over there and maybe someone will know more about it. About the e-rating, it's usually written on the tire. There are all kinds of ratings but mostly people driving Superdutys stick with the e rated tire. They are 10 ply and are a whole lot safer to have under you if you're pulling a load.

2900-3000 pounds is prolly OK as long as you don't go loading up the truck to it's max. Stock Ford D rated tires are 3042 pounds while the E rated tires are 3400 pounds. Make sure the wheels are rated at 3000 pounds and you're good to go.
Sonnax valve and Tricumulator springs are used in the 4R100 tranny. The valve increrases line pressure and the springs quicken the shifts. basicly makes the shifts quick and firm.
I like the Borla system. The noise is just a little deeper(rumbling from the headers) The cat-back is just a tad louder than stock. The power gain is noticable. MPG went up a bit too. Well worth it. Check ove at www.ford-diesel.com in the gas section for lots of header info.

Truckin' magazine has been showing a lot of 99 and later model Superduty trucks that have been 'bagged and lowered (and if you like, they also have many that have been raised, too).
If you need a specific reference, please let me know and I'll go leaf through the ones I have lying around.

I was at my buddys tire shop the other day and took a good look at the 18-22 inch wheels and tires. Most all the tires did have a load rating of 2900 + pounds. The wheels however were all 2650 pounds or so. This is marginal for our heavy trucks.
