Whats the deal with these brakes?
I daily drive my 05 F350 with a V10, its 2wd, reg cab single rear wheel. If any of that matters. My problem is I think the drivers side rear caliper is hanging up. It started after it sat for a week while I was off work. Then it went away, or so I thought. When it first did it I kinda noticed something was up and when i got to work and got out, it was the only rim that was really hot to touch and you could smell hot brakes. Then a number of week's past and just a day or so ago it did it again, and when I got out to head into work, you could hear the pads slowly backing off. You know making that creeky brake sound. So that night I got home and pulled it into the garage and took that side apart and put some grease on the part of the caliper bracket where the pads slide back and forth. I have only driven it twice since that and haven't really noticed it. Its just kind of hard to tell if its hanging up really bad because its not like the V10 is underpowered. Also when I had the caliper off, I could push both piston's back in with my c-clamp fairly easily. Do you guys think this thing needs a new caliper? It just seems like something is wanting to hold pressure...
Sounds like you just needed to grease your slide pins (which it sounds like you already did). The piston is supposed to go into the caliper fairly easy. If it doesn't, then it's dragging.
otherwise replace the caliper, you can pick up some duracrap from autozone, that work fine and shouldnt be to expensive. I would get it fixed sooner or later, otherwise you could be into replacing the rotor, pads, and caliper and potentially get to much heat where you blow the tire out.
