Considering a Steering Wheel swap - Thoughts?

I hate my F-250 steering wheel. It's slippery, and the buttons aren't laid out in any logical order. I know tons of Mustang guys and F-150 guys who have swapped steering wheels with plug 'n play ease. Just wondering if anyone here in the forums has done anything similar?

I love my Expedition/F-150 steering wheels. The leather isn't so slick, the buttons are laid out in a more logical pattern and the wood grain is nice. They also just look nicer than the Superduty one.

I have several of the Ford Repair DVD's (2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2008/2009, 2009/2010) and I'm going to dig them out later and how things are wired. I guess I could always just try and swap them, but it's always better if someone else can confirm before I tear stuff apart.

Thx

I've done a ton of research on the various Ford steering wheels and finally made a purchase. Best as I can tell, the following info is correct.
1999-2007 F-250/F-350/Econoline - Have the splined steering shaft with a flat machined on them.

1999-2008 F-150 - Have the splined steering shaft with a flat machined on them

2003-2006 Expedition - Have the splined steering shaft with a flat machined on them
all of the above should be direct bolt-ons without any custom work...wiring is likely a different story though.

2009+ F-150 - Have octagonal steering shaft - Not compatible

2007+ Expedition - Have octagonal steering shaft - Not compatible

2008+ F-250/F-350/Econoline - Have octagonal steering shaft - Not compatible
I don't know if the F-150/Expedition stuff is compatible with the Superduty line. They look the same in pictures. So I bought a 2004 F-150 wheel for $35 shipped. I'm hoping they are direct swaps and the new wheel just bolts up. Then it's a matter of getting buttons to work and making sure the airbag will work.

now if only my wheel will arrive. I'm hoping this mod will be a relatively painless swap with minimal custom wiring. If I can make my el cheapo wheel work, I plan on recovering the wheel with black leather

I can't believe that people haven't tried this swap before. If they have, I just can't find anything via Google or the Search here. it's a real shame that in general, the 2008+ stuff has the octagonal steering shafts. I've found several very cool 2011 Raptor wheels for cheap. That would be bad azz in my truck

I actually like the mid '90s exploder wheels the best. Figure they should be somewhat interchangeable if the maroon special edition F-150's from the early 2000's had 'em.

The Ranger/Exploder wheels will fit, but the wheel will be c0cked to one side. You've gotta get a wheel for a Lightning or the special edition you were talking about.

eBay. was $20 and $15 for shipping. It's just the shell, no switches. I can make the electronics work, but I didn't want to spend alot of money and not have it fit.

If this works, I'll either re-wrap it with leather...or just buy a complete nice 2007-2008 Lariat/King Ranch/Harley Davidson one for about $150.

If you get the new wheel to work let me know and might be interested in your stock wheel if shipping won't kill me
