fuel economy

Hello I'm selling my F150, and wanting to get a F250 or F350. What kind of fuel economy would I be looking at with a extended cab, 4x4, long bed, 6 speed, with a 7.3 diesel in it?

On today's fuel, I'm guessing about 15 in the city and about 20 on the highway.

Really I get 18.5 to 20 mpg on highway with a Crew cab auto. A crew cab should be lighter and a manual gets better mpg than a auto. Anyone have a truck like I'm looking at that can tell me what your mpg is?

20 on the highway if you're lucky.

If you're still wondering, I have a "96 F350 CC/LB 4x4 PSD.

I get about 12-13 with everyday driving around town, on the highway, and in the city. Driving to work I go anywhere from 65-75 mph.

Real trip MPGs going dirt bike riding, camping or something where there is a long stretch of highway I have seen 17.5 at a constant 65 mph.

If I slowed down to 55 mph on a nice sunny day cruising, I bet I could bring in 20 easy.

Now, my truck has 4.10s and a 5-speed manual. It runs great and there are no problems. I believe that I am getting about exactly what I should be. I think the gears are a little low for what I do with the truck, but it is what it is.

BTW, this answer is for the 7.3 with a little different motor. I know that I dont have a variable vane turbo, and I'm sure that there are other small changes, but for the most part, I would expect it to be really close.

Hope that helps someone.

And I realize this is an old thread.
