No question about needing to spend the cash to tune and DPF delete the 6.4L for what you will be doing. A job one truck is fine after it's recall and reflash was done.

Along the same idea, you are gonna have to spend money to EGR delete the 6.0L if you never get it hot enough to burn off the carbon.

Gas sounds like a better option for you.

I have a 08 250 with the 6.4L and I can tell you when I'm pulling our 7,400 pound RV and the DPF starts cleaning it's self I pretty much have to have the gas pedal to the floor to keep the whole thing rolling. Then as soon as it shuts off everyone ends up getting thrown in the back seat.... I'm working on doing a DPF Delete. Just gotta find the money somehow.

Thanks to all the replies so far!

I have found another truck I am interested in as well. It is an '05 6.0 with 33k miles on it. It is a fairly loaded lariat and they are asking $28k. It appears to be in immaculate condition (plan to drive it tomorrow).

Buying this truck would allow me to buy a car as a daily driver as the cost is quite a bit less than the other 2 trucks I was looking at. This may give me the best of both worlds.

Below is a copy of the oasis reports. This looks fairly clean to me, other than a new turbo and egr valve...thoughts?

Thanks again for the help folks!

Private party book on that is 30k, so the price is right. However - that's an early 6.0 and as you see by the OASIS, they have issues! Are you going to work that thing hard? If not, you will be in for continuing expensive repairs. If you aren't going to use it for a DD and only use it for towing, you should be OK.

If you're wanting to go 6.0, I might know of a super clean 2004 6.0. F-350 crew cab dually Lariat, 4x4, with every option. 32K miles... Was used to tow a 3 horse gooseneck.

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone!

I test drove an '05 6.0 as well as an '08 6.4 (not the ones in the original question, but similar). Both are loaded Lariats. After driving them, there is no question which truck I will get...definitely the '08. The interior is worlds ahead of the '05, it is much, much quieter, rides nicer, has more power, and even got about 3 MPG better fuel economy while driven harder on more hilly roads. It didn't go through a regen though, so I'm sure that helped. Not to mention, the '05 is completely out of warranty, whereas the '08 still has 3 years of the powertrain warranty left (it was originally purchased 3/20/09). Some have given the advice to go gasser, but the laid back power of the '08 sold me on diesel for towing. Based on that advice, I am going to look for a cheap car as a daily driver for my short trips. My longer trips will still be using the truck so that it will get used somewhat regularly.

Now, if we can come to terms on price, I may be driving a new (to me) truck by the end of the month!

Thanks, but I'm not wanting to go dually...just don't need one that big.
