Good deal on a 7.3L truck.

I just saw this on Craigslist and thought it looked like a good deal. I wonder if it's still available. Manual transmission too!

If I were in the market for another truck I'd be all over that thing.

Meh, $5k for a 2wd stripped down work truck with 284k miles. Sounds on the high side to me. If it was a 4x4 and an XLT or Lariat trim, or if it only had 84k on it, it might be worth $5k, but as it sits I'd call it more of a $4k at best.

Yeah, it's probably a rust bucket with holes all rusted through the bed... Oh wait, it's a southern truck so it probably doesn't have any rust!

KBB isn't gospel, but this is private party value with 280,000 miles.

Excellent
$7,745

Good
$7,245

Fair
$6,620

Private party value means nothing. You have to look at trade-in value to determine it's real worth. It's trade-in value is nearly the asking price which makes me question what's wrong with it.

Also, it's a diesel with nearly 300k on it. The chance of it needing a pretty major and costly repair is very high, and that isn't cheap on a diesel. The last thing you want to do is buy a truck that is only worth 5k on a good day, and then pour a few thousand in repairs into it. I'd stay away from it.

It's just a myth that diesels run FOREVER.
