4wd=bad mileage?
4wd=bad mileage?
Ok so i took my truck to my mechanic today because the front drivers side was making an annoying loud ticking sound. I figured it was a bad ball joint or 4wd drive. Come to find out the hub was somehow locked in 4wd even though the hubs were on auto. So my question is...Lately my gas mileage has been terrible. I usually get around 240 miles to a tank but lately its only been 170-200. Could the 4wd hub being on have caused my mileage to drop like that? Btw-2001 f350 v10. Thanks!
The stock hubs are Warns on the Super Duty. My driver's side hub ticks a little every once in a while after I disengage the 4 wheel high. I will mention it to the dealer next time I have a real issue and take it in. I am thinking it probably just needs to be lubed.

The stock hubs on an 05+ truck might be made by Warn, but the ones from 99-04 are not.
If your truck just sees the road and you only use 4x4 on occasion the Warns are way too much money for what you get. The stock hubs on my F250 went south and I pitched them and replaced them with a set of true manuals like the Warns, but I spent a whole $5 to do it. The hub housing on the D50/D60 axles are the same as they've always been. I went to the pick n pull yard and grabbed a set off an older 90s F250. Unless you're using the truck hard offroad they'll hold up just fine at a fraction of the cost.
