Misses while Idleing

I have a 2005 Ford f250 has a few problems all of a sudden. Starting today the truck will idle barely. Once you put it in gear it will go like usual. Put it in park or neutral and rev it up it will only go to 3000 rpm, when you let off it will die most of the time. Any Ideas?

What engine does your truck have and when was the last time you changed the fuel filter or filters?

It has the 6.8 V10. I changed the fuel filter right after it started doing it. I only know of the one filter. I have had work trucks act like this when they over heat. Like they are running on 6 cylenders, but when I put it in gear it goes like usual. There isn't any check engine lights on at all.

When was the last full tune up done to the truck? I would start looking for faulty plugs, plug wires, or even bad coil packs.

I havn't done a tune up on it. The truck only has 42000 miles on it. I thought everything should be good until 100000 miles.

That a good point I would also check the MAF and see if its dirty and clean it if it is.

Did you have a computer check on it - maybe a code will come up that can guide ya in the right direction

I cleaned the mass air meter and the truck still acts the same. When in neutral it will only rev to 3000 rpm. It will only idle at 500 rpm. Sometimes when I come to a stop it will die. I suppose I will have to have it looked at. There is no check engine light that comes on.

I took the truck in and found the po506 trouble code. I guess ford has a service bulliten out saying the pcm needs reprogrammed and if that doesn't work more than likely I need a new throtle body. Any body else have this problem?
