HP & torque for 7.3?
I'm looking to buy a 94 Ford Diesel with
a 7.3. This is not a turbo or powerstroke.
Does anyone know what the hp & torque is or where I can find those specs?

I know I'm sort of stepping in here, so I apologize. But I have a question. What kind of fuel mileage could a person expect from a set-up like (regular 7.3 with an auto trans) this in a 4x4? I'm thinking of looking for a diesel, for the better fuel mileage. I won't downsize though. I'm 6'4" and my Son is 6'6" and the little truck stuff won't cut it. Thanks.
Superdave: try www.ford-diesel.com they have sections devoted to the older diesels and could answer all your questions there.
Thanks, fast46triton. Turns out the hp is on the valve cover, but I'll take your word for it on the torque.
Guess what...Am I a fool or what? I'm selling my 99f150 to buy this 94 diesel crew cab. Close friend of mine almost giving it away at 10k. I just put my superchip in my 150 and love the way it drives. Buying the crewcab will reduce my debt and give me more room for the family. I put 30k miles/year on my vehicle and I suppose it would be better to have the diesel. It seems I'm getting rid of my sports car to buy this truck. That 150 is like driving a sports car.

Keithas: I too sold my 97 Flareside w/loud 40series Flowmaster muffler, chip, tonneou cover and LOTS more stuff, for my Diesel Crew Cab. It's exactly like you said, you're getting rid of your sports truck for a work truck. It's quite a change, I can tell you!! But would you believe my diesel is faster than my flareside ever thought to be. And it gets way better fuel milage!! And my kids love all the room they have, my 6 year old can't kick the back of my seat anymore either! I've just added some decals to the sides and tailgate to "jazz" it up some too. One down side, more truck to wash and wax!!! And you have to get used to not being able to do a 3point turn anymore, on a narrow road I can do it in 5 points!! And parking is a bear!! Good luck when you get it, I absolutly love mine.

he's got about 2 inches more to worry about...(longbed). Good luck with your new IDI! We had one in a 88 3/4 supercab custom, 7.3L/c-6. It got 16 mpgs, with no od. It had well over 200k when it got sold. Theese trucks are exactly what all you guys said. WORK TRUCKS! Theyll do what you need and thensometoo.
Not neccessarily, All three engines were available at some time during the 94 model year. As far as mileage goes with the IDI, I had a 92 f250 4x4 With the E4OD and7.3 IDI. It was a great truck, I wish I had never sold it. Those engines, love nothing more than to cruise down the interstate. Cruising down the highway empty, my best mileage run was almost 21mpg. But more realistically, Average was 16-17, that still better than what I'm gettin with my V6 now

My dads company has a 1993 Supercab Dually with the Turbo IDI, and a 5-speed, it gets a constant 19. The 94 comercial brochure, (made in late 1993) says the naturally aspirated diesel (185hp/360ft/lbs) and the Turbo IDI (190hp/395ft/lbs). As stated earlier, the carryover 94's did have the PSD, but only with the 5-speed.
Are you sure it's not a turbo or Powerstroke? Ford started putting turbos on all of their diesels in late '93. From then on, all Ford's diesels had a turbo. If is an automatic that means that you have a 7.3IDI with a turbo. The Powerstrokes were only issued in 5spd for that year. If you don't have a turbo, then you might have an early '93.

Gosh folks. Haven't checked the thread in a couple of days. Thanks for all the replies. Well, I bought it!! Tina, great decision on your part. What room it has!! This thing is great. My kids too, love the extra room. I wish I could say this thing will blow the pants off my 150, but I can't. No big deal. The power is adequate. This truck is like new. I couldn't have ordered a prettier truck or colors I'd prefer. It's two tone white/met.blue. Now the problem...My friend that sold me the truck had a fresh oil change and I noticed what seemed like excessive black smoke coming out. Checked the oil and it appears 1-2 quarts too much!! Has this ruined anything? You can bet I'll be at the oil change place in the morning.
Ok BigBunnel. It just so happens they did put Rotella in and I bought some from Wal Mart today. Why Rotella? I've heard Mystic, Magic and some other Rolla or something like that. I'm open. Don't know much about these diesels. I'm reading and learning though. How about black smoke? I understand black is too rich or not enough air. I have new air filter, took my bug deflector off and still black smoke only when I goose it. I kind of believe this is a normal thing with the IDI non turbo.

Our '96 Powerstroke does the same thing. I've heard from a guy that gutted the catalytic that he didn't have as much black smoke when he would start it in the morning, but I don't think it would help much when you step on it. Remember, all diesels smoke alittle.
